Re: A2A Cub is out
I have it for various reasons, and while I know it may not "interest" a lot of the people here for various reasons, I will say a couple of things -
1) Leif, the sound in the video and the sound in the sim are two different things. I agree the video sounds like it was cloned out of a Cessna. I think that either the guy was using a pre-release model that didn't have the final sounds included or has something wrong with his sound card that is throwing it off. If you watch the preview videos on the front page from Scott, there is a definite different sound that sounds like the J3's I was listening too on Saturday.
2) The aircraft I think is a preview of some of what will be coming down the line. The cub allowed them to concentrate more on things that FSX doesn't do great - stall/spin behavior, aircraft stress, and engine dynamics. The J3, being simple in its operation, allowed them to do that. Having flown a few flights (about an hour and a half now) with "Heidi" in the front, the addon is quite nice. It really does help you know how well you're really doing. I was making 3-point landings that I thought were pretty good (no bounce, no real creaks or anything) and I found that I wasn't doing as well as I thought becuase every time she commented about how hard the landing was. I got a lot better after that.
I think this will definitely put some great things in their toolkit for the next model that is of similar ilk (like a Beaver or Otter, both of which are being requested heavily). One of the A2A guys also said that they were considering doing something with the default Beaver where they take the default model and simply rework it to give it an Accusim engine, sounds, and flight dynamics.

Re: A2A Cub is out
Okay, I'm probably gonna get the thread locked because I'm reviving "FSX-v-FS9" to some extent, but I just had to post this
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tp2_Ea980Y
Features the A2A Cub, but it shows how good FSX looks with only a little tweaking (according to the maker, all he did was light effects post editing to add some additional shine and make the camera moves more "realistic").
I think the sound is slightly odd because it doesn't 100% match what I hear, but that may just be some of the effect of his sound editing and addition.

oh....so you knowingly post something that might possibly lock a thread and then you lolChris Trott wrote:Okay, I'm probably gonna get the thread locked because I'm reviving "FSX-v-FS9" to some extent, but I just had to post this![]()

Re: A2A Cub is out
The only thing missing is the little virtual Fed taking away his license after he landed.
Some how J3s dont look right with Tundra tires and the guys who have flown them like that say the drag is tremendous.
By the way just for grins -- when the FAA decided to make a tailwheel endorsement for PPLs in the States, I took my check
ride in a J3 -- my ex father-in-law made me fly in and out of a 300yd section of a grass runway with three cones at 100yd
intervals. At the end - I could take off and land in 300 feet -- so, sorry Chris the performance of at A2A J3 doesnt impress
me , although the graphics do.

Leif
hear about the FAA guy who needed surgery?
well he has it see, but while he's out, recouping the building across the street catches fire with flames shooting
60 feet in the air
Well the nurses quickly covered the windows So incase he woke up he wouldn't think the operation was a failure
kidding FAA guys .. just
kidding
...........
as for A2A they are still number uno in my book
my lights and 377 ..
too bad to hear the cub wasn't better received, but that would have been a big challenge
to outdo whats already out by such a large margin many more ppl would think they had to have it.

Re: A2A Cub is out
Hi there Joe and all,
If you look over at Sim Outhouse you'll see that the A2A Cub was very well received indeed - over 200 posts so far, virtually all positive. The painters are also quite busy, who says these things have to be yellow all over? The Accusim pack is optional. Leaving it out denies you the engine wear & failure modelling and the advanced physics, but she still flies beautifully and the price comes down to $25 or a shade over £15. Also optional is the screaming passenger, which is a good thing - one flight with her was more than enough. If you never fly the stock Cub then it's probably not worth buying this. If you do then I honestly think the A2A Cub, with or without Accusim (but especially with) will amaze and delight you. It may not be British but it's certainly a Classic.
Regards all round.

I think most of us reckon it looks the mutts nuts, just that its not a very original topic.

Ben.

Ben
I think thats what I said -- my only criticism was the sound which seems to have been rectified in the final version -- as to the models flying capabilities
I wouldn't know, I didn't buy it -- my comment about t"he A2A's model performance doesn't impress me" was simply that I have flown the real thing so I failed to see what the fuss was about in the video that was posted here. what IS impressive is to see a cub flown backwards in real life -- Im not sure if the A2A model with
its advanced physics can achieve that -- if it does -0then I'm impressed. Oh yes one small thing -- and I quote twice "A cartoon female in the front seat"
and
My ex wife learned to fly on the same J3 that I mentioned in the previous posts....It was the first powered aircraft she solo'd - she had a habit of going off
to the practice area and spinning it (something I had a hard time doing from the read seat because of the CG) oh yes she also flew it from the FRONT seat
being less than a 100Lbs.....which got alot of smiles from old pilots -- because the rear seat was occupied by a teddy bear with goggles and scarf.
so Im
sorry but I take umbrage at the cartoon female.

Re: A2A Cub is out
Sorry, is that me or A2A being sexist? Just to be clear, you can can configure 'Heidi' to be nervous or calm. In nervous mode she will scream things like "We're gonna die!!!" but in calm mode she makes comments and observations and points out other aircraft. It would be charming, absorbing and very useful except that in the Cub she sits right in my way! I have nothing but respect for female pilots - my kids' piano teacher is a very accomplished instructor and former airline pilot. If anything I'd trust a lady pilot more - at least you know she's not flying on testosterone. Anyways - Heidi or not, Accusim or not, this J3 is a cracker and that was the point of my post.
