BHX A380 FLYPAST

Post by tonymadge »

At 16:09 yesterday the A380 did two passes over the main runway at BHX I was on duty so got a few pics, its a big aircrfat but looks smaller than you would think, I would guess that the huge wings, double fuselage and large tail make it look smaller (if that makes sense) The Emeriates 777-300 looked alot biger but then with the long fuselage it seems out of proportion with the other bits where has the 380 is huge all over :) The 380 returns ona scheduled service the 9th of the month as a one off on the Emeriates route.

PS the pilot called up to say he was going past at 200" I think his altimeter was crock as it seemed a fair bit higher or he just chickened out

Cheers for that Tony

I know what you mean about scale

The Viscount and Vanguard always looked smaller due to the large windows.........until you tried to fit one in your garage

I agree Tony. I watched a Qantas one taxi past at Heathrow in July, and I had expected the A380 to look a lot bigger than that. As you say, the double-deck fuselage may account for it...lots of passengers but in a compact space.

Great pictures, by the way.

Proportionally it's very short.

The wing is enourmous but that's not something obvious on the ground :)

You need something to give some scale...

I often find big things look bigger the further away they are and you can see them tower above known details *-)

I find that with liners too :)

Cheers for the pics, Tony.

I've got this week off, so will be at BHX on Wednesday to see the Emirates A380 on the scheduled service from Dubai.
It's visiting to celebrate the opening of the new Emirates lounge in the new pier and also BHX's 70th Birthday.

Regards

Kevin

I wouldn't flyit , at least buy a ticket for it , for the sake of flying on it.
I thinks I get a better kick out of watching it fly.

Speaking to Signature last night who control most of the stuff at the old terminal on the Western apron, they have 18 vintage aircraft arriving Wednesday as well as the 380. They are doing landing fees at £3.80! to encourage them so it should be an interesting day. :)
