Jim,

Both the FS9 and FSX versions of Scotflight include Machrihanish. The freeware one by Iain Gallagher was for Fs2000 and is on AVSIM.

Hi Jim..

It's difficult to get any sort of detail in as Mach is such a large area. However.. this should give you an idea of what you'll get with Scotflight (this being the payware version)..

Image

Just off screen on the bottom right is a golf course and to the left off screen is a wind farm. It's a bit old hat by modern standards but Scotflight certainly brings that part of the world to life. I was getting a slight frame hit off that shot and it wasn't the Alouette!! 2 AI Piper's were active from the flying club at the extreme top LH of that shot ;-)

Cheers Dave :flying:

I see a fair bit of taxiway and also stands are missing from that rendition

Here's a map which can be nicely zoomed in:

Hi Jim..

My CSE's don't go to that level of excellence mate so I looked on Google Earth instead  The little bit down t'other end of that screenie is listed as Campbeltown Airport and here was me thinking it was the flying club  It has a quote after it saying 'Heathrow of the North' Well mate.. that bit is there in the scenery and there's probably more taxiways than are visible. For sure, there's not the same level of detail as in the real thing but to be honest, Google Earth showed the place to be pretty much deserted.. so much for Heathrow of the North

Mach' probably isn't the best example of what you get in the download but I still think it's worth the money if for no other reason that you get Scotland populated. We have loads of tiny little destinations up there on the VA and without Scotflight.. it's hardly worth the effort. You know the default routine.. a strip of tarmac and a tower (if you're lucky). Who would want to fly there! A whole host of airports from Campbeltown up to the Fair Isles is covered and Iain includes notable landmarks like towers and windfarms too ;-)

HI Dave

Yup.... it's some time since I looked Scotflight over, and it seems more appealing than ever. With a new machine (possibly) around the corner, I may well make it a special treat to go into the new FS installation :flying:
