Some of those textures are quite cartoon like...

But it's hard to get life into some types of livery.

The gauges on that aircraft are second to none (I help look after a real vulcan XJ823 at carlisle) and I think the texture problems are down to FSX limitations, (they always look catoonie in FSX for some reason) Ill dig out my JF/PSS Vulc for comparison.

I can agree on the Victor, that model and textures are probably 3 years now. But for the IRIS Vulcan I find the textures to be quite advanced regarding shading and effects. Screenshots never make a good reproduction of either the textures or model shading of todays advanced 3d models in FSX.

No big deal anyway, but I'm at least happy with how they look :)

That will really not be fair for such an old model... lol I watched some of my old JF Vulcan screenshots and cartoonish is probably the best word to describe it...

That last shot looks awful, as the aircraft detail in FS got set to medium low for some reason :o
These ones do it more justice :-)

To be brutally honest.. there's nothing wrong with the gauges on the PSS model either. It's not worth discussing how good or bad they are in the VC for the reasons already mentioned but.. the PSS 2D Vulcan panel is pretty much as good as it gets for the gauges that are active. Dreamfleet.. CaptainSim.. fine but even THEY do not better the look of the PSS 2D panel/gauges.
Critisize it for anything else.. the FD, the shape.. whatever but as far as I'm concerned.. the gauges on the PSS Vulcan 2D panel are still the doggies BLX.. even though they were designed and written for a sim far, far away ;-)

Exactly :-)

The director horizon and the Beam Compass work exactly as they would in real life in both of them, they both simulate the PCS system accurately, and both addons have managed to capture the spirit of the Vulcan and placed them into FS :-) They are sort of different interpretations of the aircraft.

Without a doubt Ewan ;-)

The PSS model was always 'sort of' considered the best of the bunch in spite of it's failings. The Alpha model was considered to be the most accurate shape so it's about time someone combined the two and came out with a winner :lol: Much as my heart tells me I need to have the Iris model.. my pocket (which in this case is right) says don't be an arse! You'll never fly it and it's for FSX anyway so don't bother ;-) My pocket has thus far held it's ground and isn't listening to any other argument :lol:

I have to agree with Garry on the paint front, although there are strong points to the paint. The shading around the engines looks very nice, although they're generally let down by things like the roundels. It looks as if they've been taken as they were and just stuck onto the nose/wings without any real attempt to make them blend into the paint a bit more - perhaps by fading or weathering them.

Might even go for a rework of the XH558 paint myself... I've just got to get my head around specular mapping. :dunno:
