The Vulcan in FSX

Post by JensOle »

Hi,

Some screenshots of the Iris Vulcan B.2. I really enjoy this model and it sort of has made repainting superfluous as the package includes paint schemes covering the entire life span of the (Not to mention that it also has appropriate model variations with both “clean”, Blue steal, bomb bay tanks, 21x Iron bombs etc). The only model missing is a “dedicated Black Buck” model with the external “Dash 10” ecm pod and or bomb/AGM-45 Shrike loadout.

The included paint scheme of the famous XM607 with both the No 44 (Rhodesia) Sqn tail badge and the Lincoln coat of arms puts it in the short time span after the Black Buck flights toward the end of 1982. No 44 Sqn was at the time the last operational RAF “bomber” squadron.

Some great shots there!

I'd love this bird, but I'm dedicated to FS9 until further notice.

Great shots all the same. Which Victor is that?

Kind regards

Wonderful shots Jens, particularly the ones with the Victor.( Is that the Alphasim Victor ? ) How easy have you found it learning all the panels and procedures ? I've got the Vulcan but due to my clunking old PC, but I've yet to really get to grips with it. Framerates when altering views are just too sluggish, so its another FSX add-on that awaits the new computer in the autumn.

Anyway, terrific pictures; we'll have more of those thanks ! :)

Hi,

It is the Alphasim Victor pack which they recently released a dedicated FSX model pack for. The Alpha Victor has its mistakes and is beginning to be an old model, but in my opinion it is easily the best Victor out there for FS. And consider it started life in FS9 the is not that bad, and with a few new gauges it is starting to look good (it does, as many FS9 planes, lack the dedicated system simulation as you find in newer more complex models).

The Iris Vulcan B.2 really impressed me with an outstanding external 3d model with some beautiful textures. The VC also looks top notch and the system simulation in order to fly it is great, albeit a bit downgraded to make it capable of single pilot flying.

Thank you!

I early found out with this model that you need to print out the check list and flying procedures... A lot of buttons to push and flying limits to stay inside. I have a rather new computer and it flows with great fps, a lot better than most other complex addons. To fly the Vulcan in FS is of course nothing like the real deal, but I still find it very rewarding to master it in the sim. Definitely a lot harder than flying a Boeing…lol

Beautiful screen shots :-)

I was looking into the IRIS vulcan, but I went for the Just FLight model instead, as it supported FS2004,

Does that model feature the fuel panel beside the pilots, and the navigators/flight engineers's stations behind the pilots?? It would be cool to have the entire cockpit simulated in it :-)

Yes, the fuel panel is between the pilots and it is operational. As is the autopilot to the rear of the fuel panel. At the moment, the rear seats are not modelled. Generally, the systems are modelled but with compromises to make single pilot operation 'straightforward'. And it took us over a year to get it to that level, with a lot of sore heads along the way!

Looks nice but the liveries are not very life like for military

I have both the Just Flight and Iris Vulcan and they cannot be compared, the IRIS Vulcan is far superior in all aspect as I see it. And to be fair, it sure should be as it is a much newer release.

I feel IRIS has done a good job with making a compromise regarding the system and avionics simulation in order to make it work for the single pilot environment in FS.

If you want a Vulcan in FS, my recommendation is to get the IRIS Vulcan.

And John Young has made a perfect scenery for it with his release of RAF Waddington for FSX. He has included both a modern day and the more appropriate Vulcan time period version with AI Vulcans.

Well, I find the textures of the IRIS Vulcan to be great and together with a superb external model, the reason for why I spend a lot of the time in spot view... lol And as I an eager repainter myself, I'm hard to please... :)
Having said that, some of the VC textures can be improved.

So I guess we have different opinions regarding the textures.
