Manchester Airport
I took my Mum and Dad to Manchester on Saturday morning and was dismayed to discover that the Terminal 1 Concourse is now shut to the visiting public!
40 odd years of enjoyment brought to an end. What next, Airport Hotel to be demolished?

Not without reason matey. Mainly in the interests of security. The pub isn't going anywhere though. ;-)

How many acts of terrorism have been perpetrated on an airport observation viewing platform?

I have no idea.tgibson wrote:How many acts of terrorism have been perpetrated on an airport observation viewing platform?
But, given the state of the current climate, how many could be if such a scenario were possible?
Of course I am refering to a Terminal viewing platform, such as those present at EGCC in the 1970/80's.
Manchester Airport has an aviation park which is subject to frequent Police checks 24/7. It still remains one of the most vunerable parts of the Airfield from terrorist attack.

Re: Manchester Airport
Yes, I'm sure It would be far less hassle trying to sneak an RPG7 into the viewing area rather then having a cabby somewhere on the approach...

Re: Manchester Airport
Its a shame our enjoyment is indeed being compromised by such acts of cowardice and madness.
But unfortunatley these contingencies are completely neccessary.
I am astonised at some peoples naiviety of basic aviation security.
I had a scenario at work last night where a chap parked up along the perimeter of Terminal 3 at EGCC where the road users have a clear view of the aircraft on the apron.
Unfortunately, airport security constraints mean that no vehicles are allowed to stop or park within this area.
If they are seen by Police or Airport security, they are politely asked to move on immediately.
Most never complain or object.
Except one chap yesterday evening.
He was politely asked to move on from the area.
He barked back "WELL ITS OBVIOUS I'M NOT AL QAEDA!!"
My partner said "WELL SIR, IF YOU KNOW WHAT AL QAEDA LOOK LIKE, THEN I'LL HAND YOU MY UNIFORM RIGHT NOW"
He moved on without another word..

Re: Manchester Airport
Thing is James how do the Police know who you are??
And would you really notice something suspicious and if you did would you really bother to find the police and tell them
If they did why should they take your word for it?..it could be a hoax.......no doubt they would chase it up but if you were in a position to see something that could directly cuase a problem then you must be infringing a secure area.??
For whatever eason they create secure barriers and it is for us to stay away no matter what our feelings are about their need.

Hello James..
No.. it doesn't mean that I'm afraid. It's a sad fact that bombers do not look obvious and they don't act alone. If NO ONE is allowed in a particular area.. to see someone there is rather more obvious ;-)
