Well after upgrading my system I am really happy with the results, however as I have more umph and more ram I decided to try nHancer again, I got the FS9 Profile that was listed on the net somewhere (forgot now) and I am amazed at how it runs, so clear and much better graphical look to it. I am won over at last
I think I am doing it right but what I did was fire up nHancer load the profile for FS9 and that was it.... started FS9 the usual way and it seems better, is that it, just forget it now its done?? Or do I have to do anything else?
Cheers Tony

Thanks Tony, I will certainly give you a shout should I hit a sang, I doubt FSX will win me over though
we should be getting our replacement helicopter in a few weeks, to replace the one some :fart: set fire to, its an interim one whilst they build the new one so your trip in it is a bit delayed I am afraid..
Once I get permission I will post some photos of the wreck of the old one.

Hi Tony. I've just done a complete re-install of Vista, FS9 and nHancer. I've discovered a couple of things about nHancer which I didn't understand before which may be helpful if you want to play about with settings.
nHancer's job is to change settings within the nVidia driver which you can't usually get to. Once it's changed those settings nHancer doesn't need to run in the background so you should de-select the options 'start with windows' and 'show tray icon' because you don't need it except when you want to change settings and then you can start it up from the icon. To change a previous profile you should select the option 'Allow override of predefined setting'. If that's not ticked any changes you make will be ignored. When you make changes they are effective immediately - you don't have to 'save', just close nHancer.
Different settings will work differently on different setups. I started with the recommended settings for FSX as shown in this link from Tony http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_p ... 29041&PN=1 (about a third of the way down) and it seems very good. AA is turned off in FS9 but trilinear filtering is on. I'll probably carry on fiddling but it certainly looks good on my system. I'm getting good frame rates with a good display quality despite plenty of heavy AI. All sliders to the right, laptop with a NV9600M GT card.
Thanks for the info on this, so I have the FS9 profile set I dont need nHancer to run and I just start FS9 as normal and the settings are ready, is that correct?
Cheers Tony

Yes, that's right, Tony. nHancer has already set the profile for FS9 in the nVidia driver. Whenever the graphics driver detects fs9.exe being executed, the settings change from 'global' to the fs9 profile automatically and then revert to global when you close the prog. If you are happy with the results of the default profile then there is no need to run nHancer again unless you want to reset or change the profile. So running nHancer in the background is a needless use of resources.
The only reasons to change the profile are if you can see room for improvement or if you feel like living on the edge, fiddling about and possibly sodding it all up Although you could always reset the profile or even reload nHancer to get back to default. I would suggest that you don't need any of that at the moment so leave well alone
"If it aint broke don't fix it" I was always told, however I am a bugger for fixing the unbroke and making it broke so I cna fix it again!! :doho:
Thanks re the tips on nHancer, I never had luck with it before but the new system seems to be coping very well. I guess my Zotac 8600GTS 512mb is the slowest thing, however I want to avoid the 9xx series and also the GTS250 so it will be a while before I lash out on a 260 plus gtx or even ATI... I have just ordered an Acer 22" monitor. Today I spent the time cleaning out my small room so I can actually get in to play on the power machine. With the new 22" and the old 17" 4:3 screens it should be interesting! I realise FS9 will have stretched panels but I know from the laptop that the outside visuals are ok.
I am quite happy that the whole rebuild and monitor still comes in at around £350, much better than the grand I was thinking I would pay, so it shows build your own is cheaper ;-)
I love those pin sharp images you posted, superb
