Here we go again
I've been running a Dual core 2600 since Vista came out (so to speak), and I've just re visited FSX following GENX install and UK2000 sceneries.
Following the usual 5-12 fps I deleted the AI - air, road and sea traffic, and adjusted everything to get a compromise between FPS and detail, and I can now get 40ish fps during flight. It needs a long test and try to see what kills the framerates - but a little imagination allows a whole new experience to unfold.
I'm now using FSX more than FS9 (Which I thought would never happen) - yes I don't have all the great FS9 stuff I would like, but with things like Rick's Hawk, the chippy, the DG Anson, the Rapide and many others, I'm beginning to actually prefer the FSX version........shock and awe..........
ps. I'm just going to find a nice birch tree branch to whip myself with, I'm booked into the Betty Ford,I'll catch you all again in 2012 - pending parole conditions. (I don't imagine a few Hail Mary's will absolve this crime).
I'll see myself out.
Gary
pps.I feel a weight off my mind.
ppps. Any chance of a VC for the VC (10) in FSX? - I know, I know.......but it would still be great!!!!
pppps. and with FSX don't forget the Viscounts and everything else.
ppppps. Does this mean I'm banned?

Re: Here we go again
The VC10 works perfectly alright in FSX
One of the things with AI, is that all AI aircraft are made for FS9, and thus they are NOT optimized for FSX, model wise as well as texture wise.
A conversion of textures to dds format would certainly do some reduction in FPS, but it's a tiresome job to do ....
Removing all panel files and references would also do it's additional reduction....
Traffic file are mostly made for FS9 unless you convert them to FSX format, and here we are blessed with several more or less efficient converters available.
So all-in-all if you want to do the work, you may very well end up with a system where FSX performs as-good or nearly as good as FS9.
But AI is a killer, and that was also the case with FS9 .... so trimming here might pay well off.
Btw. Welcome to the dark side :-D

Hi Folks
It is if using the GUI.
Have you tried imagetool from a DOS box ?
It'll recursively perform across subdirectories.

I've never felt so frustrated....... died so frequently/spectacularly/or needlessly....... yet had so much fun, in a long time.

That's it Dan,
Lose the road traffic, the AI flights and the autogen - and it's not half bad. Takes me back to FS5. Where did it all go wrong?

Re: Here we go again
Hi Paul, yes I have, the GUI takes way too long and is only good for testing! ... But still depending on the orginals you may or may not end up with some rubbish here and there, and not all painters are equally talented, thus some textures are not straight forward convertible unless you fiddle a bit with them first in order to get them to behave....basys wrote:Hi Folks

That statement will live with me for a very long time.. and I wholeheartedly agree ;-) Push away all the crap and the hype and this is what you get. I hope TonyM visits this thread! So all-in-all if you want to do the work, you may very well end up with a system where FSX performs as-good or nearly as good as FS9.
