Re: Fresh Air @ Southwest
the AA Md80 fiasco was amusing for us -- The Feds showed up and used our wiring bundles as an example for the great Silver fleet.
rather nice -- of course it does say something for the aging airframe program that SWA missed a spot -- BTW Scab patches are de riguer for us -- even so we keep what is referred to as a "scratch and dent" log which catalogues skin damage and patches to the ENTIRE airframe of every aircraft in the fleet and these must be checked on a periodic basic (in some cases to overnight (RON) inspections and at least performed every A4 check (usually about every 30 days)

Re: Fresh Air @ Southwest
CBS 11 (KTVT) here in Dallas just ran a story on the 10pm news with more information, and it looks like Southwest keeps a similar log to you guys as they had information (via the FAA) in the report about the complete history and all cracks on the aircraft that had been previously repaired but not yet reskinned (last heavy check where the skin was replaced happened about 3 - 3 1/2 years ago).

Well, no doubt that what has happened to this aircraft unquestionably is the result of poor maintenance.
And we've all learned to what this might lead.
Best,
Nick

No question, Garry. But here we can sort out pilot error, terrorism and constructional flaw from the very beginning.Garry Russell wrote: We don't really know any real facts about this
Either way you put it - there's not much left then.
Cheers,
Nick

Manufacturing fault???
Design fault????
We don't know.....that is the only sure thing. Has anyone comming to these conclusions examined the fault first hand.??

... would be a reduction to that one particular aircraft. Maybe.Garry Russell wrote:Manufacturing fault??? Design fault????
For in general, history doesn't prove too many examples of manufacturing faults discovered after 25 yrs of service. ;-)
Anyway - when it comes to saving money I don't trust noone no more...
They'll have to come up with explanations pretty soon.
So long it's all just discussion and it's all just speculating -
However following the aftermath of this story is gong to be fascinating!

Nick
