Post War Commercial Aircraft Reg Placements

Post by AllanL »

In the immediate post-war period, was there a standard layout for registration codes on the wings of commercial aircraft in the UK?

I have seen both top right wing placements and spread across the two wings for aircraft from the same years. :dunno:

Hi Allan

The correct method was right across the wings top and bottom but then it became standard for top starboard and bottom port.

The reigtration should not be on the bottom starboard or top port under any circumstances. :o

Later on most airlines started leaving it off the top and after not challenging it for many years that requirement seems to have been dropped.

It must still be under the port wing though.

Thanks, you'll be relieved to know I won't be doing the relevant painting when it comes out. :worried:

You know of a real World painted wrong..the usual is flags back to front on the starboard like an Aussie Heron and the last two CAT Superfreighters :doho:
