Email Oddities

Post by AllanL »

Stretching the virtual spanner a bit I know, but I'm getting odd behaviour from the email system, and I'm wondering if the dialler has been hijacked but don't know how to easily check. Well it says it is the service provider dialler, but can I be sure?

Using Outlook Express the host email service is not transmitting emails and has not for 24 hours, but will receive. Now I know that when using my work laptop through a PAYG dialler I can get emails in but not out, as it is not going through the company server.

Looking at Outlook Express settings I can see that the Active Directory is listed as

Server Name: NULL / Account: NULL LDAP 3268 Log On Required (Ticked)

Then there are three other Directories listed for Bigfoot, VeriSign Internet Directory Service and WhoWhere Internet Directory Service - all using LDAP 389 and not requiring Log On.

Now I don't know if they were there before or are set up with Win XP.

Am I being paranoid, or is DaveB really out to get me - or at least transfer the bar bill for Saturday to my internet account?? :worried:

Thanks Dave, it turned out that the outgoing server port numbers in the advanced settings had changed.

Doodoo doodoo, Doodoo doodoo.

Putting on my tinfoil balaclava in case of alien mindreaders - the emptyness might frighten them. :000:

Well mate.. glad you found the cause but it begs the question.. how the heck did that happen! :o :dunno:

I ran a full scan on this pc yesterday with Kaspersky AV 2009 and it ended some 3hrs later with 7 events flagged 'very dangerous'. What were these events?? They were all programs!!!!! :o :brick: :doho: Adobe Reader.. WordView.. Flash 9.. that sort of thing. What are you supposed to do when the programs you use are backdoors for viruses to get in! :dunno: I dunno.. the more complex these things get, the less I like em

Two's up with the anti-alien mind probe headgear
