I have an old Microsoft intellimouse (optical) that occasionaly acts flakey so I disconnect it and spray electric contact cleaner under the left and right click buttons. I let the mouse thouroughly dry before reconnecting and it has worked everytime I have done it. Caution - your mileage may vary but I figure I would have to by a new mouse anywy if I can't fix it so its worth a try.

Tks Nige

The mouse itself shows no sign of playing up unfortunately.. I wish it did so that I could prove or disprove what was going on  I've had the case off and cleared out a whole pile of 'stuff' and have just reflown the VA flight. It seemed to hang at the same point (just before TD) so I thought BLX and let go. However, it didn't BSOD when I closed the sim and now I have a rather heavy landing to contend with
I'll see if I can provoke it into doing something odd again.. but hopefully at the begining rather than the end of a flight ;-)

Hi Guy's..

The story so far..
I dug a load of rubbish out of the case, removed and blew out all of the fans (including cleaning the heatsink and fan on the cpu), cleaned out the graphics card fan as best I could with it in situ then started the whole shebang up again.. and got one more BSOD (but only one). :worried: The lot runs a lot quieter now though I must say!
So.. in for a penny e t c.. I ordered a new mouse (the same sort.. M$ Optical) which arrived on Thur morning. Since fitting, the system hasn't failed once. I don't want to count my proverbial chickens just yet but compared to what I had started to see.. the fault does appear to have cleared. :cpu: If I remember, I'll report back in a weeks time.. or sooner if things go wrong ;-)

As an aside.. I can't believe how much better a brand new mouse feels which in this case, is quantifiable as they're like for like

Sitrep.. 25.5.09

Well.. I turned the pc on this morning and got that familiar box saying that my system had recovered from a serious error  As it happens, I thought it must have happened yesterday at some point in the evening as the CBFS forum icon (which had changed to the IE icon during the day) was back at being a CBFS icon again and that never happens.

If anyone understands page dumps.. I'll upload it :dunno:

Dave

Try looking in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer.

Then under each heading (Application, Security, System) you are looking for items with red crosses against them - this might indicate where the error is occurring. Report back what you find!

Just one of the many web pages about this fault:
http://www.pcuser.com.au/pcuser/hs2.nsf ... 39004EA14C

I would dismiss some of them for now but have you updated the Nvidia drivers recently?

And the PSU might be the cause, or overheating or the memory - if you feel inclined you could download Memtest as linked from that page, burn a CD and run it for a definitive answer about the memory.

What are you running to check the temperatures (Speedfan is pretty good at providing temperature for various bits in the PC) and it has been a bit warmer recently.

I have a new pc mate.. well.. newer than this one but this one is THE one. The one with the FS install which is just how I want it. It's the one I never want to die!!

OK.. I have a spare hole in the side and I have a spare fan to put there. Would you advise it suck air in or blow air out?? I've one 8cm fan at the front drawing in and a 12cm fan on the back drawing out.

Display drivers.. well, they're what was there when I got the card.. Nvidia 6.14.10.9371. DX has been updated since but I don't know what that's at. Point is.. nowt goes on this pc so I see little point in constantly updating drivers for it. It runs FS9 and FSX and has at one point run CoD and Cod2.

I must have a look at that event viewer ian pointed out so see if there's anything glaringly obvious. Fan/cpu monitoring.. no. There's little I can do about the OAT (or the ambient room temp) and if it gets too hot.. the pc has to shut up and get on with it
The memory is probably the newest thing on here. I upped the ram from 1.5gb to 3gb when I eventually got my secondhand version of FSX and that was direct from Crucial :)

Right.. let's see what I can find

Hello Mate..

OK then.. suck it is ;-)

I've had a look in Event Viewer and in system.. all the lines marked with a red circle/white cross (if I have that the right way round) report 'System Error.. Cat 102.. Event 1003'. Means JS to me so in the meantime.. I'll zap that fan on the side ;-)
