I got to love WinME and all of it's poor habits over a few years but in hindsight, it was a bit of an old dog. There used to be two IP's popular at the time.. one TCP and the other I can't remember but it was cool for networking and multisession. When our pub got sold, the sellers pulled out our touchscreen till system and with it the IBM Servers which were replaced by second hand tills and pc's from some corner shop!! These were all WinME and not 2000 Pro which we'd been used to. The tills were replaced in short order and ran on their own network. However, as they used TCP.. every time the WinPC wanted to communicate.. it saw TPC and presumed the tills were online so tried to connect to the internet :o  :brick: D'oh! :doho: I got around the problem by buying my own pc (with XP) then charging the new company for it

Incidentally.. re IE7/IE8 fuzzy fonts.. I seem to remember there being a fix for it. Anyone remember where or what it was?? My eyesight is already crap and the fuzzy fonts do nothing to help :-(

The only fix I can think of is Clear Type which I tried and did not care for.

For the Clear Type aka smooth fonts (in XP) try rightclicking an empty part of the screen and go Properties>Appearance>Effects.

In the Win98/ME days, I was being a friendly help person for an ISP. To set up MS networking, according to the theory the only protocol you needed was TCP/IP - but until you also enabled NetBEUI, it just would not work :@

Hi Mike

The fonts in XP are generally as crisp and clear as they always were.. as are the fonts on the toolbars on IE7. However, the font used by IE7 for text (as I'm typing now on the forum) has changed from IE6 and it's this that isn't as clear. The font itself has changed and with it the clarity. If I shoot over to another pc now and read this (it has IE6 but I tried IE7 and got what I'm seeing here) it'll be as clear as daylight :) Maybe it's this forum that doesn't like the IE7/8 font :o All other aspects are fine.. it's just the typed text that's not :dunno: Odd  I'll have to see what other forums look like but I don't get out much
