Seem to think that I once read that installing FS9 to a disc that does not have the windows files on can help performance. Is this true, and if it is, how do I do it?

Just install it to a different drive. For instance if you've got a pair of hard drives with C:\ as your main drive with Windows then install Flight Sim onto your D:\ drive by choosing a different installation path when installing.
On paper it does offer better performance to keep games/applications and Windows on a seperate drive, but having tried it both ways in reality I've not noticed any real discernible performance increase. I imagine that you will get more mileage from this technique on an older system than with a more modern one.
Incidentally this will only work with two physically seperate hard drives, if you've got one hard drive that is partitioned into two then there won't be any performance gain. Don't install anything on an external hard drive either, again the technique is only really referring to two physical hard drives inside your PC.

Thanks Chris, eventually found the change drive options. On previous attempts had not equated the 'Folders' item with changing drives.
