Wisley

Post by trainfan5 »

Evening everyone,

Does anyone know of a good site/pictures of the old Vickers Test airfield at Wisley (1940s-70s)?

On Vickersviscount dot net a few pics of hangers etc can be seen in the picture sets of the prototypes.......

Might help with a few details.

after help from stevo @ ACG and garry, i've worked the below out which i'd say will be as good as i can get to the real thing. However, i have spotted there is a scenery for wisley in the 1960s so I will have to look at that and see what i've missed buildings wise. Therefore, i think i'll do is do wisley with a grass deck (so pre jets) using what i've managed to find myself. It only appears to have the hanger, offices and the pan. apart from that, all grass :)

The green below is the replacement taxiways and now only the known buildings (in red) in place in the 1950s are present :)

Not much there really so it shouldn't take that long to do (in comparison to other airfield projects i know of)

Hi Jon..

I only know of one Wisley and it didn't look like that I'm afraid. Are we talking about the Wisley south of Brooklands?? I'm a bit confused by the /East Kirkby

yer, its the one south of brooklands. based on current aerial shots and photographs of the site in its heyday. It is set in the late 40s though so that'll be wh you don't recogise it (i don't think you're that old dave)! that's why there's lots of lovery grass and props :)
