H.A.W.X

Post by Vulcan_to_the_Sky! »

Hi all,

First off this is flightsim related BUT NOT on P.C so if its not suitable mods please feel free to remove!

Just bought H.A.W.X for the Xbox 360, and if you've got one of those its well worth a purchase. Think Top Gun/Lock On but without having to read a 300 page manual. Its great for low level combat against fighters/bombers/ground units. GFX are very very good!, and it has a nice selection of fighters to go at including Migs, Sukhoi's, Tiffie (Eurofighter) and others. Well worth the money in my opinion and while flighsim 9 or X is still supreme for civvie stuff, this adds a new dimension to combat flying.

Sorry theres no screenies as its not easy getting an image from a T.V Screen, but its well worth a look at if you own a console,

James.

This is out on the PC too, there's also a demo available.

I tried the demo, but it kept crashing with my X52 joystick plugged in. Unplugged the stick and it works :dunno:
Total arcade, not even vaguely sim-like. Good graphics, and a fun blast but IMHO I wouldn't part with my hard-earned.

DaveG Hawx doesnt like our X52's, but if you try using it in XP Compat and Admin mode it should work... However i could not even control the jet in sim...

Demo wouldn't work with my X52 either. Played it through using the keyboard, and it's fun. Once the stick compatibility has been fixed, I'll give it a whirl if the price is right. It sports a multi-player co-op mode which sounds fun.

AND the graphics are superb. Rio de Janeiro looks absolutely stunning in all it's 3D glory.

Looking on the HAWX forum just after the demo came out, it seems it works with the newer X52 Pro, but not the original version (which I have). If the RTM version is the same, I expect it'll be patched at some point.
On Play.com the PS3 version is £39.99, the Xbox version £24.99 and the PC version £17.99. Take your pick

£18 is pretty reasonable. When they fix the joystick compatibility problem (same happens with my mate's Cougar HOTAS setup), then I'll certainly let play.com have some money for it.

I must admit I tried the PS3 demo when it was first released and then I downloaded the PC demo yesterday. It's far more enjoyable on the PS3 thanks to the game-pad, as predicted the PC version is definite console port and it really shows it wasn't designed with stick and throttle in mind when you're playing. I plugged in a 360 controller on my PC and it suddenly became far more enjoyable again.

If you don't own a gamepad for your PC then I'd certainly use HAWX as an excuse to buy one, you can actually pick them up for under £10 and they are reasonably good quality these days.
