To be honest with you Andy.. I gave up with Ctrl+E+2 ages ago as I can't get the darned combination to work either On the S-55.. I make do with the pilots window sliding open and that's my lot ;-) Some developers realise the shortcomings of CE2 and put a door opening switch somewhere. At least I can click a switch!
Andy, not sure what I did to open it but some time ago I redefined my keystroke and had 'D' for opening doors then changed it back later when I installed the Whirlwind as could not get the other door to open with my present selection.
To select one entrance I pressed 'E' and for the other.....'E+2' and it worked.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Nigel.
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.
Do you folks all re-bind your keys? Because from what I remember both FS9 and FSX use SHIFT+E (or SHIFT+E and then tap 2,3 etc) to open the doors, not CTRL+E.
I didn't have any trouble getting the door to open, but on the occasion where I do, there's a gauge on Avsim called Selection Correction by Rob Barendregt - here's the file name: rcbse-10.zip
Dead easy to use - just plop it in the gauges folder and add the gauge to the panel.cfg file. Works a treat in both the real sim and the dark side. The read me tells how it works, not being a panel builder I don't necessarily follow, but work it most certainly does.
I've been enjoying hovering over the checkerboard an Kai Tak and watching the planes come in - it's lovely.

Sorry to bump but I just noticed some door gauges available from Avsim. You can add your choice of 3 different designs to any panel and then you can do away with CTRL+E+2.
I tried it with the Whirlind in FSX once, but couldn't get to work. I've yet to get around to trying it again and double checking I did everything right. I'll let you know when I do. My joystick is on the blink though, so not much flying at the moment!
