For the most part on all of my aircraft that should have lots of engine smoke it has vanished. There are only a few exceptions to this such as the recently installed Alpha Javelin for FSX. I've also noticed that the red, white and blue display smoke from the Skysim Hawk has suddenly gone very "light" and transparent, it isn't proper thick smoke at all now.
Pretty much nothing has changed recently so I'm unsure as to exactly why this may be, I don't suppose anyone has seen this before and knows exactly which files need replacing where from the original FSX discs?
Hmm, engine smoke missing

Re: Hmm, engine smoke missing
Have you added the SP2 update (or if you are using acceleration installed that?)
Ben.

FSX + Acceleration has been installed since Acceleration was first released with no problems.

DX9 mode, effects slider is all of the way up. Like I said it's been running fine for a while, but a forthcoming four engined heavy that produces quite a bit of smoke wasn't on my system when it was on everyone elses. I fired up a few others that should have engine smoke and have in the past and most of them seem to have "lost" it somewhere along the line.
I hate it when FS does these annoying things. I'm sure it'll be something to do with some effects that have been overwritten somewhere but I'm not sure where to start looking.

I'm tearing my hair out here. Funny how the smallest things can prove to be incredibly annoying.

Turns out the drill is exactly the same as when this kind of thing happens in FS9. Install the game again on a different PC and grab the clean effects folder and paste over the existing files. Or just grab the original effects out of the cab files, whatever is easier.
