Alphasim Gloster Javelin for FSX

Post by fsafranek »

From the news page at Alphasim...
New FSX update for the Gloster Javelin ! Here's a full FSX upgrade, free to existing owners. The usual FSX features such as bump mapping and self-shadowing really do the 'Flat Iron' justice, both SP1 and SP2 versions of FSX are supported. Existing owners of the Javelin just need to log in to their account area and they can download the new FSX version. Pre- Jan '06 purchasers should send us an e-mail with either an order No. or the e-mail address used at the time of purchase, or street address. We will then forward a link to the Javelin download area.
Also, the repaints I did while painting the original textures should work fine with this.

I am a very happy camper indeed!

I even managed to get into the store and (after a failed attempt where it quit after 2 meg), downloaded my free upgrade, almost 3 years after I bought it! I am very grateful for AS not charging us, after that amount of time!

I have just taken her up for a quick airtest. :welldone: :welldone:

I saw a vapour trail, so went after it (a 737) and eventually intercepted it at FL30, after a long and thisty climb with AB on. I then had to beat a hasty return, landing with about 5% of fuel left :$
She has FR's of a native, not a 'port over', so I am very happy. I just need to fix the copius amount of tyre smoke she throws up, no matter how smooth you land her!

If you love classic Brit fighters, she is now well worth buying for FSX, a bit 'basic' compared to the latest payware releases, but great fun.

I couldn't actually see the afterburner visual effect at all on my rig in spot view, and some of the lights appear to be hidden in the wing of the aircraft and may need adjusting in the aircraft.cfg

Very nice indeed, this free FSX version (for those who purchased the FS9 version) is fantastic value and quite nice looking to boot. :welldone:

And wouldn't you know it, getting rid of those antiquated 160 series drivers and going back to the most up to date 180's fixes those issues.

FreeFalcon 5.0 will have to take a back seat I'm afraid, those old drivers work fine for that but break everything else.

Nothing actually uses PhysX properly yet to any great degree but if anything you're using needs them then you can install the drivers separately if you're using older graphics card drivers.
