Seems like I spoke too soon guys.

Its bad news!

No sooner have I started to reinstall the basic utilities such as anti virus (AVG) and the router software then the whole machine has crashed again.

All the software installed fine and worked ok initially. Including internet access etc..

Upon reboot the problems began.

So I did another format, this time I did'nt use the recovery disc but started afresh using the ACER e-recovery factory settings option.

And its done it again - more blue screen of death fatal loops.

Not sure what is wrong with it now. Seems I have done all I can with regards to ACER's recovery options.

Anyone any ideas?! :dunno:

It's duff hardware then. Your only options are to track down the fault yourself (most likely culprits are memory or the hard drive although it could be various other bits and pieces) or call Acer and get a repair authorised on it.

Do you have a linksys wireless adapter? I started getting a BSOD consistently starting yesterday. The error referenced something along the lines of an error with rt2500.sys.

Searching the interwebs told me led me to a suspect driver. I'm in the process of reinstalling a freshly downloaded version hoping it helps. Yanking the wireless card from my pc seemed to settle things down.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Hi guys,

I finally found what I think is the problem.

Don't quite know how or why it has done it as I'm not that computer literate but know enough to get by, mainly from mistakes by me or good advice from helpful people.

I spent days formatting and then formatting again and basically finding out what it was the laptop was'nt happy with.

Anyway the issues seemed to be to do with the ACER recovery partition which provides a built in restore facility and gives you the option to revert back to factory settings when selected during the re-boot. Once all the factory icons and applications installed themselves I would get NORTON AV provided as a freebie for six months. I hate NORTON. Heard too many bad things about it so I always bin it.

This was where problems began.

The machine was'nt happy with me removing Norton AV and installing AVG in its place.

This caused some sort of fatal error or confliction.

A little peculiar as I have used AVG for years without issues until now.

That said I installed Comodo this week and hey ho. No problems whatsoever. The laptop is working slicker than a slick thing from slicksville.

So why has the laptop started doing this now after reaching its third birthday? Your guess is as good as mine but as long as its working like it is with not even the slightest hint of a blue screen (yet!), then I'll be a happy teddy.

Even brave enough to start re-installing FSX tonight.

Indeed mate. So far so good. I'd forgotten how crap the basic install of FSX really is. Those default settings are really dire!
