Re: WIP...But where is it?
I doubt very much if it's UK2000 Peter. Their scenery generally stops at the boundary of the airfields covered. You may get a few trees around the locale but not ground textures to that extent

Re: WIP...But where is it?
Well I've got quite a lot of UK2000 and my UK seems to look as good as that just about everywhere and it has done for years...I've got parts 1, 2, and 4 with Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stansted Extremes. I don't have any VFR scenery in UK

That's the way Peter prefers it ;-)
I think the only time Peter is NOT inverted is just prior to touch down .....

Too late on the disqualification Peter!!Hmmm...I should have disqualified you and Nigel HJ from answering this
Dear old RAF Stradishall.
Runways: 04/22 07/25 14/32.

Nigel.

Re: WIP...But where is it?
Well yes Nigel...but you did have a clue in my booklet...Anyway, well done, it did need a bit of research to identify it and those runway numbers were the way to go.
BTW This is how I established the exact position of the runways:-

You can see my pointer on the threshold of a runway and bottom right the Lat and Long which I recorded...All three runways were initially 1000 yards long in 1938 but were extended during 1941 to 07-25 2000 yards, 14-32 1400 yards and 04-22 1500 yards. With AFCAD, after creating a new airfield, I placed runways of that final length in their approximate position...Then I placed a blue dot at each of the Lat and Long positions previously obtained and joined each pair of dots with a black runway line. Then, with AFCAD runway properties, I swung the true bearing of the runway till it was exactly parallel to its runway black line (had to work to 0.1 of a degree). Finally I dragged each of the three runways so that their respective black runway line with a blue dot at each end was precisely on the runway white centre line and the blue dots equidistant from the thresholds.
Variation has to be obtained for the magnetic bearing of the runway and this can be obtained by placing your aircraft on the airfield and "Clearing all Weather"...If you now press "Z" once and look at the wind it will be reported as ??? at 0 knots MAG...That ??? will be Magnetic and the "Clear Weather" wind is True North at 0 knots...So if the ??? is 005 then the difference is 5 degrees and the Variation must be 5 Degrees West ("Variation West, Magnetic Best"). Naturally the Variation gradually changes year by year and the Magnetic Runway Heading will move far enough away for the runway numbers to be changed and repainted (in my day Heathrows 09-27 runways were 10-28). However, for Flight Sim to be correct the Variation should be fixed for the life of the FS version in use.
Well, perhaps another long boring discourse, but possibly of interest to some :flying:

Re: WIP...But where is it?
I realised that I still have a pc showing the UK with default ground textures Peter and it looks pretty much as in your shot. Funny how we all complained about them when FS9 came out (or many did) but how much worse the default FSX textures are for the UK! That's progress I suppose

Re: WIP...But where is it?
Yes Dave...I personally think that those textures in my first shot compare very favourably with the Virtual Earth shot that I have just put up showing the prison at Stradishall...I will go as far as to say that they are a better representation than the UK VFR textures, which I don't really like
