Re: Jersey, Guernsey...Is it possible???

Post by Dave354x »

Hi, great program...I eventually installed Tile Proxy (had to run the exe as administrator to work! which kept me up till 1am working it out...) My problem now is finding how to configure it to run google earth? I installed beta 8 which stated in the read me, rather tounge in cheek, that the owner of google had refused permission to use his site? The shots I get of the channel Islands are all very poor resoulution, however the Florida Keys are great!! How do I change the .ini file to look into another server....google for instance...?

Many thanks
Dave

Oh bu**ger it's for FSX!! :brick: Don't you dare say anything about buying it either, FS9 will remain with me for quite some time yet.

Nigel, Tileproxy is for FS9 too... see you can have your cake and eat it! Except in this case the cake is a little less flavoursome than the FSX version because the texture resolution in FS9 is not quite so good.

Chris

Dave, there is a preconfigured proxyuser.ini file on the site in my previous post but google is not available in this or any other ini file provided with the newer versions of Tileproxy. So far the best balance of coverage and resolution seems to be MS Virtual Earth but the colouring is quite a bit off in many places - far too green. If you have a good PC not notice of the tips on the same website with respect to increasing the range of high resolution textures loaded at any one time.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris, that's great news. Guess I can live with slightly less flavoursome textures. :dancer:

Nigel.

Chris,

Thanks for reply & HU on the other site. I will make it a New Year's resolution to take the plunge & try it with FS9. I might be tempted to wait to try the earth simulations for FSX. I still fly in both, though mainly FS9 currently due to number of add ons. However, did download the Herc from captainsim on Monday for FSX so . . .

Best wishes
Chris

Chris, I have the Captain SIM C130 too. I tried it out with Tileproxy and found that the combination of the two tended to overload texture rendering so it wasn't a particularly happy partnership. Also I must admit that I had very high expectations for the CS C130 and subsequently I'm a little dissappointed with the finished article; however for 9.99 euro I ain't compaining!

Chris

Chris

Ok, thanks for advice (again :) ). Will keep that in mind when I take the plunge in 2009. Had a quick jaunt in the C130 (when the wife was watching her Christmas DvD Mamma Mia) - and as you say can't complain for 9.99 especially given full price was in the 80s somewhere. Manual takes some reading though. If only my boyhood ambitions had come true - I'd have been flying the real thing. Darned eyesight - c'est la vie). Anyway will look forward to flying in and around my birthplace (Guernsey) in due course prob without tileproxy loaded.

I know how you feel - I should be recently retired from driving Concordes for a living, but now I can't even get a ride in one :'(

Finally took the plunge, downloaded and when I start tileproxy, final DOS message is "Tileproxy is ready to fly" but nothing then downloads when I fire up FS9. Think I've followed the directions to the letter from the site mentioned by other Chris H above- any clues anyone? Have turned UAC off (Vista) which can be one of the problem areas suggested.
