Oh say it aint so, Joe! I always thought it was the Vikings and Danes (sorry Dan) that did all the murder, rape and pillaging. "Sorted" past? Who dear, me dear, what dear, no dear. Just because a few heads were hung on spikes and a few minor transgressions took place at the Tower and a few other locales doesn't mean a sordid past. How very dare you! Besides, that was years ago and we still have gunfights on the streets here.

Ugly Americans? Good idea for a book! ;-) The Colonials are still struggling to become a civilized nation, what with mail order guns and easy credit. Oh wait, our flare for economic genius and banking without regulation, which we have cleverly exported all over the world, has rectified the easy credit bit. Yes, we are loud and bold but we are free! We think we invented freedom anyway. We are now owned by China so you can blame them.

As an aside, Virginia claims that the General Assembly, established as the House of Burgess in 1616, is the oldest continuous representative legislature. Thanks Oliver, you Rump!

Still at least we have bid adiós to that Texas gunslinger "Dubya". He rode off into the sunset, they rolled the credits (very few really) and things are looking up. It is a start. Still a lot to be accomplished, still a long way to go. For instance - no one knows how to make a good cup of cha here, very uncivilized!

Seriously, I hope the Vulcan stays in the UK - that is where it belongs! The Colonials would pobably not be very interested in it - it's not American, it's not gigantic and it's not a B-52. On the other hand, if it comes to the Udvar-Hazy (google if you don't know) which is about 7 miles from my house ...... well, I may change my mind. I love the Vulcan.

I am with 'airboatr' on this. If America was really as bad as it makes itself look from outside, it would have gone under long ago. There must be a lot of good people there. I have always been disgusted by the way Whitehall and Westminster work so hard to preserve the illusion of Britain as a major World Power, without making any serious effort to preserve the realities of the heritage which once made it so, and this seems to be yet another example.
That said, a Vulcan which flies with American funds is better than no Vulcan at all .

This totally unbiased opinion comes to you from an Australian citizen, native to Scotland, and seven-eighths Irish by blood, including a substantial Viking component.

Hope this thread does not start an Atlantic war!!

The few Americans I have met in this country have always been polite and extremely interested in our history and way of life, one even said that they have not known so much politeness shown to them!!

I have never been across the 'Pond' but some of my friends have and all said 'you must go' for they were always treated well and welcomed wherever they went.

If the Americans can afford to maintain her in flying condition and have the technical knowledge to keep the Vulcan in the air then so be it, rather that than see the scrap merchants blow-torch getting to work.

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with going to the States.. more the point that we waited years for the project to come to fruition only to see the aircraft may go 'abroad' after one season as there's not enough funding here. Doesn't matter two hoots where it goes! ;-)
