Peter, the tool is independant of FS version. The "FSX" version just gives more options, i.e. dds, but you can use the FSX version to remove or add mips in either FSX or FS9, obviously, if you select to convert to dds, these won't work in FS9. :)

I beg to differ Ben...The two versions of the same tool produce slightly differing results from the same task and this can have a detrimental effect on your scenery blurries.

I've tried both Peter and have no adverse effects using the latest version of the tool in FS9. Which video card are you using?

I don't have any problems Ben, because I stick to the FS9 version...However, some peoples machines get blurries in their sceneries when using aircraft with "No Mips on DXT1 textures" and other people do NOT get these blurries...It has been suggested somewhere that the difference could be caused by textures with formats adjusted by the wrong version of ImageTool. I put Mipmaps on any aircraft DXT1 texture that has not got them and it immediately wipes out the scenery blurries that were caused by that same DXT1 texture with no Mips. This is a complete fix for Dave Garwood's Hunters which cause scenery blurring in MANY but not all peoples machines...I can have all nine of the two-seaters and "Echo" in view at the same time with no blurries to the scenery, but I'm probably the only person who can do this because I'm using all my Hunter adjusted textures.

When discussing this difference in machines elsewhere, the use of the two versions of ImageTool cropped up as a possible factor.

Ah... just had a thought Peter. If your refering to the oringinal version of Imagetool.exe that shipped with the original version of FSX Delux, it has since been updated with SP2 / Acceleration. ;-)

OK...That makes version 3...I've never used that but I'm happy with my FS9 version as I only have FS9 now :flying:

Are there any guides to using Imagetool, and what can be gained from it ? I've looked in the SDK manuals, but is there anything better to introduce me to it ?

Hi Paul,

Sorry I haven't had a chance to knock something together yet. If you look at the image converter batch file in DM's models you'll see exactly how it works. His batch file calls the tool. DM has it configured in such a way as it will only look for BMP's that are his file names butyou can easily change this to other file names. You'll need a bit of Command Line knowledge use it.
