FSX & FS9 Sound in Vista

Post by perob »

Hello I wonder if anyone can help me ? I have a problem with the sound in my flightsim. It seems to happen when I am flying 4 engined aircraft, prop or jet. I get this terrible echo and whinning sound that distalltes when the aircraft flys past and I cannot do anything about it. I have a creative x-fi gamers sound card 7.1 speakers and have tried every setting there is. I would just like to know if anyone has had the same problem ? I even bought the latest creative x-fi pc express card for my computer and it does the same thing. I have also installed Vista a number of times as well as installing fsx and fs9. I hope somone can help, it could just be Vista as the problem occures with both vista and vista sp1.I have also used the latest drivers for my sound card and by the way i am using FSX with Acceleration.

Check your power supply has enough go, quite often under-rated power supplies manifest themselves in sound distortion in FS9.

Hmmm, i have the same card in Vista SP1 and ive got no problems...

Can i surgest a number of things firstly?

1- Have you used the auto-update program? If not do so, it will download and install the latest drivers and software...
2- Its a daft one but must be checked, are the speakers in the right holes?
3- Check the sound props in FS and set the input/outputs to the sound card.
4- Does it do it on one aircraft in one sim or does it do it on one aircraft in both sims?

Also in fs9 how do you go to the input output in fs9 to select your sound card, and yes it does it in fsx and fs9 and all the 7.1 speaker leads are in the right holes.

Hi Mate,

You haven't told us if it happens if you unplug your 7.1 speakers and use an ordinary pair of headphones?

Hi,

Not familiar with the soundcard or speakers but it sounds like you may have some sort of 'ambience' selected if that's possible in your set-up for the card/speakers. You know, the sort of thing where you select theatre, music, church, movie etc etc. :dunno:

Shot in the dark.

John
