When I was a First Officer on those Vanguards I drove to work each day in this:-

That my brother leaning against it as if he owns it!...I owned that car for five and a half years :flying:

Sadly I gave away all my best slides of that car when I gave away my slide projector and screen...They were in the magazine in the projector :'(

Well, I'm pretty sure that's not a Moggy!

I'd plump for a Jaguar XK150. Now that's a classic! I'd bet you'd give up your Smart for one of those, Peter.

Ian :)

Yes, it was a Jaguar XK150 Special Equipment model in Cotswold Blue with red leather upholstery. It had chromium wire wheels with white walled tyres...Mmmm I loved that car and for some of the time that I had it, there was no speed limit on the motorways...I used to cruise motorways at 110 mph and was always a bit surprised at how quickly I came to the end of the motorway and had to slow down for normal roads.

I see from that photo that the tax disc is due to expire sometime in 1964, so that means that I was still studying at Avigation to get my CPL and then ATPL. I did not join BEA till 12th October of that year and started my training on the Vanguard.

I do love my little Smart though and it is about to go in for its first annual service :flying:

I thought at first that was you in the photograph Peter. :$ The first time I ever had a ride in a Jaguar was when I was at school, a friend of my mother picked me up one day in a new Jaguar, though cannot remember what type it was but one thing that always stays in my memory is that of the smell of the leather interior.

Oops, looks like I set off an avalanche... :o

Ah, first of all YES, I do think that it was a great era of british motoring! And YES I think a car like the Minor is a perfect proof for that, even more the Mini though. But for sure it's not necessarily the expensive sports cars writing history and defining particularly that era! However I have always been impressed by British motor heritage and myself own a UK-built 1969 Ford Escort Mk1 that has covered only 63.000 km in its 40 years life. Still a great daily runner ;-)

And as you've figured out I would agree with Dave the car next to the Moggy must be a Rootes Car, most probably a Hillman Minx MkVIII Estate, please compare:

(by the way how do you guys embed pictures here?)

So much fun this place here!!

Best wishes from LOWW,

Just put {img} at the front and {/img} at the back like this:-

BUT THOSE Squiggely Brackets must be SQUARE BRACKETS like this "[" "]" (They are disruptive to normal text so I had to show them as "{" "}")

First car I ever owned was a 1956 built Ford Escort purchased in 1966 for £60.00. I drove it for two years and only had to replace the hand brake cable and fuel pump.

My first car was a good old Morris 1100, bought it off my cousin in 1972ish for £300.

Funny though, I still remember the registration number as MOF 434F but can't always seem to remember the reg on my present one.....got to be me age!! :$
