Installing Gmax and plugin.

Post by fighterpilot »

I am interested in getting into mmodelling with Gmax as i have a little experience with it. However i can't work out how to install the plugin. I have downloaded and installed Gmax just fine and it runs ok, however if i try and run the fs2004 sdk it brings up: 'No Plug-in directory was found: 3DSMAX' and then 'failed to open Gmax.'. I expect i have the sdk in the wrong place, atm it is in a seperate folder does it go in the Gmax folder? there are no instructions on how to get it to work so if anybody here knws i would be thankful if you can tell me how to get it all working.

Edit: I also have the MakeMDL plugin installed to its default directory as well.

Thanks

Richard

I'm guessing you're going with FS9, but it should be the same as FSX, you need to copy the Gamepack folder from the SDK directory to the gMax Gamepack directory. This should then give you the option to export as an MDL.
The plug-in only works with 3D Studio Max, I can't remember exactly which bit of the SDK you need. If you go to FSDeveloper.com in there downloads they have all the FS9 SDKs, I think if you get the gMax one it has everything you need.

indeed, you can copy the gamepack over, but you can also manually install the plugins, as I did
