One of the guys has already mentioned why the '10s' do it if you scroll back a few posts ;-) All the RAF 10's have a permanently fitted receiving probe.. not all the RAF Tristars do. The max fuel that can be carried by a VC10(K3) is around 73tonnes and a K4 (no internal tanks) is 68tonnes (C1K a little more at 69.. Plonk this against a Tristar which with internal tanks fitted can carry 139.7tonnes.. you'll see that the necessity for a Tristar to receive fuel is a lot less than a VC10 ;-)
