Nigel.
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.
Re: VC-10'S at 8,000ft?
I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I thought it was so the C1K chaps could practice recieving, as the larger aircraft could carry enough fuel for the C1K chaps to practice proding and still have enough left for the smaller aircraft to have a go.
Ben.

So hopefully that, the batteries hold out in at least one of the Delco Carousel INS Units....So why are they frequently seen in pairs?

Happy New Year JamesYeah why do they fly them in pairs do they do that with the Tristars?
One of the guys has already mentioned why the '10s' do it if you scroll back a few posts ;-) All the RAF 10's have a permanently fitted receiving probe.. not all the RAF Tristars do. The max fuel that can be carried by a VC10(K3) is around 73tonnes and a K4 (no internal tanks) is 68tonnes (C1K a little more at 69.
