VC10 Noise Abatement Departure

Post by VC10 »

Happy New Year to all.

One of my Christmas presents was a copy of the BOAC VC10 Ops Flying Manual (DEC 68 rev). It goes very nicely with my BOAC E.O.'s Technical Manual.

I thought all you VC10 flyer's out there may be interested the procedure for a noise abatement departure ex-LHR. I'll quote the Super version.

1. Refer to Noise Abatement Throttle Time chart and note time applicable to r/way in use(in round figs it is 80 secs)

2. To minimise ground noise nuisance during the TO run, open up all engs to 85% N2 on the brakes, then release the brakes and continue opening up smoothly all engines to full power within 5 seconds. On releasing brakes start stop watch.

3. When airborne accelerate to 190 kts. IAS. Once Ldg Gr is retracted , but not below 400 ft select 14.5 degs flap and continue to to climb at 190 kts.

4. At 2000 ft or throttle time, whichever occurs first, reduce power to 91% N2. NOTE: Never throttle below 500 ft.

5. 90 secs after Throttle Time, but not below 2000 ft increase power GRADUALLY to 93% and carry out normal flap retraction and climb-out proc.. Use 96% N2 in the temperature is above ISA +10C

Hopefully your neighbours will now complain less about your VC10 departures now
If God had meant us to fly, he would have given us tickets.
