As both FS9 on my C drive and FS9b on my F drive are playing up, it seems time for a re-install. I have saved all of my flightplans and AI aircraft to a backup file, hopefully for easy installation.
Does anyone know, if it is possible to have AI aircraft in a sub folder of FS9 Aircraft, perhaps in a similar way to DM's panels in his DMFS folder?
Regards
Kevin

Re: FS9 re-install
I know it can be done in FSX... in it, there are lines in the FSX.cfg which tell it where to look. Might be worth checking if there is anything in the FS9.cfg?
Ben.

Re: FS9 re-install
Thanks, Ben
I had read about the possibility in FSX and found it in FSX.cfg under the title 'MAIN'. This allows the Simobjectpaths to be set, which I assume I could set one to AI. Unfortunately FS9 doesn't appear to have a similar facility.
Oh well, looks like I'll have to keep a bulky 'Aircraft' folder when I re-install FS9.
Thank again.

Re: FS9 re-install
Hi Kevin..
I didn't think it could be done in FS9 or I'd have done it years ago
There IS a way for your AI not to show but it means having separate models (not cool if you already use aircraft you usually fly) then opening the airfile using something like AirEd. There is a line in the airfile which can be turned on or off making the aircraft invisible in 'Select Aircraft'. You end up still having an aircraft file the size of a chinese telephone directory but 'Select Aircraft' is a lot less painful and quicker too ;-)

Using AirEd, change record #105 (Aircraft Type) to "2" (without the quotes. The information on this record is as follows:
0 = Normal
1 = Helicopter
2 = Non-Flyable (The info in my copy indicates "CFS AI only" but it also applies to FS9 aircraft.
As Dave indicated, the AI aircraft still need to remain inside the FS Aircraft folder, but they will not appear in the aircraft selection menu. If you intend to fly the AI aircraft with an appropriate panel and sound folders, leave reord #105 = "0". I usually change any AI aircraft to "0" initially to make sure I have installed it correctly and that the model is reasonable. I then change record #105 to "2" when I am satisfied all is OK.

Re: FS9 re-install
Thanks. guys.
I do use AirEd, as you say it's very useful for checking the installed AI aircraft.
As I'm part way through a complete re-install of FS9, I thought I'd ask on the off chance that it was possible to separate the AI aircraft.
Cheers

Re: FS9 re-install
We wish Kevin.. we wish :-( This is one of the few bonuses I've found with FSX and although they remain visible if you select 'ALL' they can otherwise be avoided
