I couldn't agree more Derek, though I do my best

So it must have been a senior moment then? :-(

Hello, all. I'm a newbie here. I'm wondering if you could help me with a very strange problem.

I downloaded the Westland Wyvern S.4 from Nazca Studios, and I must say, it is a beautiful model and most entertaining to fly.

However... as you can see in this screenshot, she has a rather unwelcome... guest. It acts as if it is part of the model. It stays in the same spot relative to the aircraft as it maneuvers. Another strange thing is, it seems to move -just a little bit - as the horizontal stabilizer moves.

I have completely deleted it from my hard drive, and even re-downloaded it, to no avail. (I have downloaded 30+ other aircraft for FSX, and have never had a problem remotely similar to this)

Does anyone have any idea for a solution? Thank you for your time.

Err... that's novel. It looks like the pilot's torso, just bigger and in the wrong place. The slight movement will be because of the pilot control animation.
Is the pilot's body in the right place as well?
It might be a graphics problem, I managed some strange effects when I had the spot view maximised on my second monitor with a lot of AI traffic, basically the card couldn't keep up. What specs are your machine?

It is a 2.8 GHz Dell XPS 400, 1 GB of RAM, with an Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE. Pretty normal, average, off-the-shelf hardware. It's about three years old.

The pilot's body appears intact, but I haven't really examined it closely. I'll take another look.

As I stated, all of the other aircraft are just fine, and FSX runs just fine. This is rather a puzzler, isn't it?

Hmmm, specs should be fine, not too dissimilar to my laptop and that runs the Wyvern fine. Might be worth downloading the latest drivers if you haven't already.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll try it.

Incidentally, you are correct - it is the pilot's torso. I zoomed into the cockpit, and sure enough, his arms and head are connected to... nothing.

Looks painful. Poor guy...

The small dark object outside the cockpit to the pilot's right I cannot identify.

OK, got it. I went into the first Textures folder and removed a file named pilot_spec.dds, and it went away. Wonderful! :welldone:

I have no idea why that worked! Thanks for letting me no, at least I've got an answer no if someone else has the same problem.

One caveat: the pilot is stiil there, but he is "ghosted" - sort of transparent.

It doesn't bother me at all, but it might bother someone else.
