Hi Mate,

What problem are you having with FSX KML? I've never had a problem with it

Hi Rich

I supplied the FSX flatten in the zip file

or are you trying to make a FS9 flatten using FS10 tools ? :dunno:

which is probably why it's not working as they are very different in how they work.

Regards
Rick

PS: Ben............ i used SBuilderX 3.10 and excluded "terrain and autogen" sorry missed the question :worried:

Hi Ben and Rick,

I am trying to do flattens in FSX using fsx_kml_110 and/or SbuilderX neither of which can I get to co operate.

Ben, this is what I got off Google Earth and how fsx_kml handled it. Can you please post a good flatten kml so I can see how it is made up zero altitude was selected in Google Earth but I see no mention of altitude.

Rick will have another crack at SBuilderX again later, Thanks to both

KML off Google Earth, the KML was proccesed by fsx_kml_110 with no complaints is there something missing.

Hi Rich,

I remember when I started using it I couldn't find were to set the elevation data either lol

In the first image, if you click on the vertices tab this will give you the current elevation (which will be 0 if you've just opened the kml file saved from google - NOTE remember to save it as KML from google as this is NOT the default google option.) Then click on the EDIT button
fsxkml1.jpg
The Edit screen is shown below. Click on SET ELEVATION and enter the elevation data (I can't remember if its Metres or Feet) note that you can enter a decimal point, but it is not displayed, but is recognised.
fsxkml2.jpg
You can use the same KML file to apply different effects, so simply use the copy button back on the main screen and select the description of what you want it to do. In my example I have selected Airport_Backgrounds_Flatten, but I could copy this and set the copy to a particular land class for example. The information is all in the online help, however its not very well laid out which is what confused the hell out of me. Its a great wee tool as you don't need to dive into the KML or XML to do it, the GUI does it all. Remember you will need to have FWTools installed for it to work, also free and very useful. http://fwtools.maptools.org/

Hope this helps.

Hi Ben

That looks 100 times harder than SBuilderX

just open the google map in SBuilderX and directly place the polygon (didn't use satellite pic as there is nothing for this area in detail.

Rick

Hi Ben

I have never used SBuilderX before

and it's very easy (and free)

you can even make bridges with traffic tracks
