Anyone fancy knocking up an airfield ?
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone fancies knocking up an airfield for FS9 and FSX ? I'm looking for Castle Kennedy Airfield (Stranraer) in Scotland. The remains are visible on Google Earth to the east of Stranraer on the north side of the A75 just below the two lakes. Not looking for anything fancy but it would be nice for the Bristol Freighter car ferry service to Newtonards. Details I have from 1972 Pooley's Guide :-
70ft AMSL
Two Tarmac runways 36/18 1280 x 46m, 27/09 1280 x 46m
Regards
John

Re: Anyone fancy knocking up an airfield ?
Hi Rick,
Thanks for that, yes, looking at the other info, Pooley's was waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy out on one of the runways. Mag variation or whatever it is that changes a runway heading over the years might account for the 10 deg difference on one but the other is out by a mile. Wasn't sure if anyone would want to take it on but it would be nice to be able to use the route with the VA on FSA. I'm guessing you'll be doing it for FSX so I think we might still need someone to do one for FS9?
Regards

Re: Anyone fancy knocking up an airfield ?
Hi John
I have made the Runways and taxyway layout for FSX (can do this bit for FS9)
have also added trees and objects as near to correct as i can see. (Using the excellent freeware RAF buildings and default objects only)
FSX Afcad will need fine adjustment by an expert as i am not 100% on setting up traffic so that will need doing still
but i now have a Castle Kennedy in FSX
I also made a proper flatten for FSX and linked to the main road
I need to know what lighting, navaids etc are needed if any as currently i have built it with no lighting
try it John beta 1 link http://rickpiper.cbfsim.org/files/Castle_Kennedy.zip needs Ted Andrews RAF objects to display as i made it!
FS9 Afcad AFX but no placed objects or flatten as i don't have FS9 anymore (gave it to a new simmer) but should allow someone else to continue for FS9 http://rickpiper.cbfsim.org/files/AFX_EG77fs9.zip
Regards
Rick

Re: Anyone fancy knocking up an airfield ?
Hi Rick,
Thanks very much. Had a quick look at it in FSX and looks OK in spring. Other times of year the texture that FSX uses looks very pale pink/beige. I really must look for some better textures than the default. FS9 looks fine from the flatten point of view, just need someone to get rid of the houses/trees that are in the way.
Regards

Re: Anyone fancy knocking up an airfield ?
Lovely work mate. What did you use for the flatten? I use FSX KML, but not sure if there is something better out there now.
Ben.
