Hy John, :)
the fourth is good.
Yesterday at Inverness the wind was 12 Kt at 240. I remember I cut off the power more times, to prevent overpeed on ground, but no brakes or foot brakes.
At the end of the novel, I have a red flight... :$

Hi John :)

Welcome back (hope you had a good break) ;-)

Could this particular flight of Fran's be deleted.. shoving him back to Inverness?? The VA has already paid back the penalty done to it's reputation and it would give him back a clean sheet. It's been an object lesson for us all and a subject that we need to be vigilant with.

Hi Dave,

No, we can't delete the flight as we have received the advantage of the unpaid fuel which we can't do anything about. We've not lost a great deal as the VA rep is back and Fran's rating doesn't appear to have been affected by this so is a lesson to us all. The same is being applied to all the VA's that have encountered this problem. I wish we had the 'fuel remaining' back in the Client window so that we can keep a check on the fuel, however, we do still have the aircraft fuel gauges as well as shift + z to give us the info for fuel % onboard. I think the lesson to all is that should we see an unexpected increase in fuel then DO NOT end the flight in the client, just close the client down and refly the route and try and avoid what caused the fuel increase in the first place.

Regards

John

Hi John :)

OK mate. Yup.. the VA rep was back up the same day so any damage was minimal. I know too that all VA's encountering such incidents are being chastised in the same fashion ;-) The One-Eleven in particular has visible fuel gauges (regardless of 510ED or otherwise) and I guess the error could have been realised before any damage was done. Shame it wasn't :-( Perhaps a 'fuel remaining' window in the client would help us avoid this. One for the suggestion box ;-)

So Fran.. on you go mate. This is no tarnish on your good name even though your record will reflect a dip. It has highlighted a current problem to us ALL so however disheartened you may feel.. some good has come out of it. Keep at it mate

Nicely done Fran! My personal feeling is that they look bloody awful anyway and I can't imagine why M$ thought they'd be a good idea  They obviously made a great impact as there are still many thousands who don't know what the hell they are or do!

BTW, I know that Joe & Claudio are both trying to find ways to prevent the autorefuel from happening, but the problem is that this is a "basic function" of Flight Simulator so last I heard, they're not very optimistic that there is any way to block it when the client is loaded.

Hi Chris

Tks for that. If they can.. it'd be great. If they can't.. it's something pilots will have to live with and be aware of ;-) I wonder if the client can be made to look specifically at fuel twice before takeoff and again at landing plus again when the PB is put on. If it detects a change UP from start to takeoff.. it could give a BONG warning notifying the pilot the flight is void. Should he stray over one after landing and an increase is noticed.. again.. a BONG and a warning that the flight is void. This gives the pilot a chance to simply close the client and start again without bringing a penalty on himself and on his/her VA.

Sound reasonable??

Hi,

Yes there have been discussions about the refuel problem and its detection. I think that FSUIPC has a few things up its sleeve that may be able to sort it some things out and Konny was looking into these last I heard. I'm not sure if the refuelling stations can be bypassed unless perhaps its possible to have a universal excluse of all refuel points at all airports in FS9/FSX as a scenery add-on which would be a bit of a mammoth task. A couple of things discussed and we thought was within FSUIPC's sdk were :-

1. FSUIPC to detect if sim is in pause mode. Client would not allow flight to commence until sim was unpaused to allow a client refuel.

2. FSUIPC to check expected fuel load at start of flight against actual fuel onboard.

3. FSUIPC to detect any increase in fuel weight after a flight has commenced.

Hopefully, item 2 would not show any error as long as item 1 worked correctly. However it might show up discrepancies where some models have extra tanks that aren't shown in the client. Certain PMDG models seem to cause problems due to this I believe. Ideally if an error was detected thaen a warning would be given to the pilot that if he were to continue with the flight it would be marked as cheat so he would have the option to exit and try again. Likewise with item 3, if an increase were to be detected then a warning would be given to the pilot and the consequences of continuing the flight.

Regards

John
