Done a longer flight KTTD to KSFO. Flew at FL 19. Distance was 476nm. Duration of flight was 2hrs 41 min. Block Fuel was 5742lbs.

I flew to the settings as close as I could. However with a climb rate of 500fpm I could not maintain 160KIAS.

Hi Simon

Does that mean it was creeping well above 160KIAS or couldn't it maintain 500fpm without losing airspeed??

Lost speed, climbed about 140-150KIAS. I followed the power settings on the kneeboard. It does not give a climb rate. I chose 500 as it seemed about right.

Hello Mate..

Rgr that ;-) I'd have thought the Hermes would've been a little more sprightly than that (though not much more). S'pose I'd better pull the model myself and have a looksee at some point in the not too distant :)

Just as a matter of interest took the Tudor out on a short flight. Again I stuck to the kneeboard guides and it seems to do exactly as it states on the packet.

Three things spring to mind that might mean the Hermes poorly performed IRL

One was it was unsellable.........BOAC didn't want it because it had an excessively heavy wing.

Second point........the Hercules engine usually had coolling gills OR a large fan in a free flow cowling......can't remember to propper name for it
The Hermes had both which make me wonder if that was extra cooling because it had to run on fairly high power settings???

The third point is this may all all be a load of B@££@ck$.but I thought I would mention it anyway    . (It did have all I mentioned but it may not have affected it to that degree)
