Just installed this lovely freeware - now to find some reason to get VC10s and 748s out there... :flying:

A brilliant bit of scenery and the CTD's were easily fixed i haven't tried any of their other work but i am sure it is up to the same standard. Now if only I knew how to add my own traffic, i'm sure it is far too complicated for me so i'll just sit back and enjoy everybody elses efforts.

Re: A Retro Base for 727s
No problem with VC10s, Jim! BOAC and BA were using them to serve BDA from LHR, en route to the Bahamas and South America, and also daily from JFK (seasonally alternated with 747s) through the 70s (with me, of course!) before being replaced by Tristars from LHR. Apparently they couldn't schedule 707s because strong crosswinds are a frequent occurrence and it's a long way to the nearest alternate - which was JFK! The airport used to be a US Navy base until recently. Anti-submarine patrols, Orions, I think - I've seen Nimrods there too.forthbridge wrote:Just installed this lovely freeware - now to find some reason to get VC10s and 748s out there...
It's now a daily 777 from LGW. Cyberbrat and I went over for a short break last year using my free Club class tickets
I'm sure the crews will appreciate a break from the Alaskan winter, Peter. Make sure they don't forget their golf clubs!petermcleland wrote:That looks lovely...I think I'll install that and send my 727s there. I'll need to work out a route for them
Dave, that's Erick Cantu at his best! The paint is by Michael Verlin of HJG. Superb work, isn't it?DaveB wrote:Blimey Ian.. It looked like a real shot until I scrolled down to see the AI on the ground.
Richard - World of AI is the easy way to get traffic if you want current aircraft and schedules. One of us can easily help with that. Personally, I'm going to try and set it up manually with 1975-1985 period retro but it won't be easy as I have to divert my WoAI stuff first (The Bermuda Triangle might be useful here ...fighterpilot wrote:Now if only I knew how to add my own traffic, i'm sure it is far too complicated for me so i'll just sit back and enjoy everybody elses efforts.

Lovely - what better excuse than to have an HS 748 to take visitors on a whistle-stop flight of the island for the sheer indulgence of it???
Here we are waiting to get clearance as another few customers arrive - they will be up in the tour flight tomorrow!

The '10 is about to slam the reversers on:

I anticipated my clearance, but I'm airborne in plenty time....

As we set for 2500 feet for our photographic tour....

A brilliant freeware!

What lovely weather for it, Jim! BTW, just under your starboard engine you can see the pink of the hotel that I stayed in last year. Just over the causeway from the airport - five minutes in a taxi and five minutes walk from the pub. Perfick!

Interesting how the weather never scuppers these enterprising flights....speedbird591 wrote:What lovely weather for it, Jim! Ian I do use world of AI to populate my airports but meant coding my own ai for example adding retro aircraft like yourself and all the flightplans etc. Seeing classic aircraft at my airports would be great, but so far i haven't delved into how to make it happen. I looked at the Calclassic AI but nver tried to install it for some reason.

Re: A Retro Base for 727s
Well I've got my B727s flying from Chicago Midway (it was to far from Mcleland Field to Bermuda direct). They come into my base early in the morning when they don't conflict on the Gates. Then they go back via Midway and on to Bermuda...I've only checked my base end so far but will check them through Midway and Bermuda tomorrow. I have Eastern, Northwest Orient, Northwest, Continental and Frontier operating, all in old liveries...I did have TWA but discovered the textures were missing so Condor got in instead (what is that German doing on this route)...I'll have to look for that TWA texture and try to re-instate it. They all look gorgeous and I'm looking forward to seeing them arrive in Bermuda tomorrow. Re: A Retro Base for 727s
CalClassics is a superb and comprehensive AI package and a lot of people here use it, I think. But for me it's a bit early - 50s/60s. My period is 70s/80s. There aren't any packages for that. You can get flightplans from Retro AI but you have to download and install your AI aircraft separately and your whole world will have to go retro. My set up consists of two (soon to be three!) time capsule airports of the period - wholly populated by retro traffic and without impacting the World of AI set up and modern aircraft in the rest of the World. For instance, in Hong Kong I can fly from a busy Chek Lap Kok buzzing with Airbuses and 777s and within 10 minutes I've gone back 30 years to a Kai Tak of 747 classics, DC-8s, 707s and VC10s! I've done a similar project with David Maltby's 1975 Manchester scenery.fighterpilot wrote:Ian I do use world of AI to populate my airports but meant coding my own ai for example adding retro aircraft like yourself and all the flightplans etc. Seeing classic aircraft at my airports would be great, but so far i haven't delved into how to make it happen. It's quite a performance to set up as the WoAI traffic has to be diverted and the retro traffic has to fly to and from a 'secret' destination which I have contained within a 'time warp' so that it doesn't impact the main WoAI modern world. It would look incongruous to have 80s aircraft arriving at FS2004 LHR, for instance. But the effect at my retro airport is superb with suitable traffic arriving and departing at realistic intervals throughout the day.
That's what I intend to try with the Bermuda scenery, Richard, but there are some big challenges to overcome  . Obviously I'll show the results (if there are any!) and if you like what you see, I'll find a way of transferring it all to your system. But it's a very time-consuming process to set up, so it'll be weeks rather than days. But I'm determined to turn Bermuda retro!
Everybody here will have a different idea of how they want to use their classic aircraft and scenery to make it as real to them as possible. But in order to create my own preference I've learnt from the very learned and generous people here and also by trial and error. But I doubt whether anybody else completely shares my view of the perfect way to re-create classic AI!

It sounds like quite a spectacular, Peter. I hope you're going to record the event?petermcleland wrote:They all look gorgeous and I'm looking forward to seeing them arrive in Bermuda tomorrow.
Are they all flying in together? I need to reserve hotel accommodation ...
