Optimising Vista

Post by fighterpilot »

Just wondering if any of the experts here have any tips on optimising vista and removing or stopping any unnecessary processes. My computer is only a laptop and recently i have had problems when flying in FS with running out of memory or most recently an unexpected shutdown as I engaged the parking brakes on an FSA flight :@ So any tips anybody has here to help streamline vista or other processes would be much appreciated.

edit: aargh just happeneded again this time whilst on short finals attempting a flight for the third time and it will probably expire now. Will have a go cleaning up hard drive as well but any hints on speeding up the lump that is Vista would be much appreciated.

When I first loaded fs onto my laptop it would not run at all - "not enough memory" would get thrown up. To solve it I altered (upwards) the amount of virtual memory allocated. I believe it was in system properties/advanced.

Hope this helps

At the front end, turn off UAC (User Account Control)

Personally there are few things I hate more than a machine asking me if I really want to run something that I really want to run.

I built it, I decide ;-)

Rant over

Indeed Derek UAC was the first thing that I turned off, after a few minutes it was driving me crazy. Will have to look at the virtual memory though.
