Contact Points advice, please

Post by speedbird591 »

I'm stocking my retro EGCC with a few exotics. What I have here is an ugly brute of an Ilyushin 62, VC10ski. It looks passable at a distance! You'll notice that the nose wheel sits about a foot from the ground. I think the real thing had a tendency to do this as it had a big pole with a wheel on it that came out of it's bottom :$ Anyway, I've posted the [contact_points] section from the config file. Any suggestions as to which ones I should start fiddling about with to get the nose wheel down?

Hi Ian

Value #4 is the verticle position (-15.50)

Try that on line #0

Oooops. :$ yes indeed it is minus .that is 15.5 feet below the aircrafts datum line so try -16 for starters

Corrected above

Thanks Peter :)

Actually I think it needs to be increased (i.e. moved up), so -14 might work better. But that will become obvious once you start changing values.

I've found that (usually) if you save a Flight, change the values and save the cfg file, and then reload the flight you will see the new value. Doesn't *always* work though.

Hope this helps,
Tom Gibson

Hi Tom

Trouble with popping in and out.not got my thinkung head on

Yes.......as it is it is too far away so try -14........but just fiddle until it's right :)

I have a key assigned to reload aircraft which works usually to check for this sort of thing........supposed to re read the cfg

It doesn't seem to work for eyepoint adjustments though.

When you are happy best to come right out of it and go back in to double check

Thank you very much for the advice, gentlemen. Much appreciated.

I won't have time to fiddle with it for a day or two, but when I do, I'll report back how I got on.

Cheers

Ian :)

Thanks again, Gents. The magic number was -14.80. All looking good now (well, as good as an Il-62 can look!)

Image

Actually, it looks as though that Il-18 has a similar problem  but at least I know what to do now. Perhaps it was an Eastern European thing. Perhaps it was to allow for piles of snow on the gates which the nose wheel ran up instead of using chocks. Or perhaps not ...
