FS9 Start up error message

Post by Bridon Bear »

Hi Chaps,

Not been able to use FS9 for some time due to other commitments, however, on start up I am getting this message:

Flight Simulator has detected potentially incompatible aircraft or software.

File: GaugeSound.dll.

do you want to load this software? Click No to disable this software. YES NO

I had this once with FSSound.dll and the usual fix of adding a line to the .cfg
[oldmodules]
fssound.dll=1
sorted that one out but what is the 'fix' for the above?.....I cannot think what the culprit is as I have not used the sim for a couple of months..... :-(

This is not the end of the World but a tad annoying to have this on each start up.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards.

Bridon Bear.

I think gaugesound.dll is something to do with gauges created with EasyGauge.

You could try adding

GaugeSound.dll=1

to the old modules section and see if that sorts it.
Alternatively, remove the dll altogther, though that may stop any panels that require it from working properly. It will probably be in the main FS folder or the modules folder.

Hi -
GaugeSound .dll should be placed in your main Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9 folder. I believe you can also place it just for specific aircraft, in with the *.air file. It allows various clicks for a variety of switches, including rotary radio tuners. Some people find that annoying and disable the file.

Hope this helps

No joy...... :dunno:
GaugeSound .dll should be placed in your main Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9 folder
file is in there..... :-(

Disable the .dll would be an answer but I was wondering why it should present itself as a problem in the first place..... :dunno:

Any other suggestions chaps..... :roll:

Bingo...!!!

Thanks Dave....your file sorted it....my file must have corrupted somehow......It wasn't a big deal but still very annoying, especially as it was working fine until the lay off and no addons had been added...very mysterious but at least it has been resolved.

Thanks again Dave.

Regards.

Brian -
Just check that the dll is not also present in the Modules folder, and REM out the reference in the FS9.cfg. If you name it in [OldModules] in the cfg, FS will go looking for it, and the poor thing will get all confused when it doesn't find it. Similarly, if it is in \Modules with no other reference, the poor wee thing won't know what to do with it, and puts up a dialogue box asking what you want.
Like Dave, I am sure it is called by the internal code of some gauges, which is why there is no reference in FS9.cfg or a panel.cfg .

Cheers

You're very welcome Brian (and tks Mike for the added info) ;-) Often, it seems to be a combination of files that will cause one in particular to let-go.. FSSound.dll being a good example. Some folk had no probs with 1 version but did with the new one and vice versa.

Glad this one worked and that dratted error message has gone :thumbsup:
