It's to stop lots of lovely little dents from appearing in your propeller, is it not?

Re: Carenado C206 Multipack
Yes, exactly, the prop 'sucks' the small stones from the ground underneath it so the theory is always keep the aircraft moving when the engine is running. That way there's less chance of the stones hitting the leading edge of the prop and damaging it.
Another top tip, alas not possible to simulate in FS, is time the engine oil top-ups to when you're not at a gravel strip. If you bung a new litre of oil in the engine, it will initially give you a higher oil pressure. You'll always have high oil pressure in the bush anyway because from engine start to take-off is a matter of minutes or less, so no time for the oil to warm up. I took off from a gravel strip and the oil pressure was off the end of the gauge and once in the air had to pull the throttle as far back as i could to try to bring the pressure down a little. I took about 5 mins of flying at around 100ft before the oil temp came up and the pressure backed off so i could add more power. Still, it was a legitimate reason to be down so low watching the wildlife
