'Raspberry ripple' 748 is 'rippled' no more

Post by Chris558 »

The former XW750 of the RAE now looks just 'orrible. But you'll notice it is also American registered! :o Must be emigrating :-(

hmm.. Are there any more flying in the UK?? That said.. are there any RR 780's?? One or t'other flew over my boozer 12months ago and while I didn't catch the rear end due to the tree line, it was a 748/780 front end.. no mistakin' those Darts in the climb either :tunes:

December 04 or January 05 off the top of my head. I flew on her in December 2004, which was one of her last flights. Nice aeroplane, and I'm glad I had the chance for a trip.

Hi Dave.

Janes Aviation at Southend flies two... http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6347582 ..which are ex-emerald.

As for the 780, as far as I know Qinetiq at Boscombe still fly XS606, XS646 (both in 'ripple') and the Open Skies one in former RAF transport colours, XS596.

If this one flies I thonk it would be the only series 1

Dave.... if there was no mistaking the sound I think it wou;d have ben a 748 as the Andover sounds a lot different.

Cheers both for that

I think it was probably an Andover. TBH, I was so shocked, I froze (notwithstanding the hedge trimmer on fire in my hands) I presumed as it was so low that it was either doing survey work or had visited Benson as that was the general direction of the aircraft (eg.. from Benson going roughly west.. westsouthwest). Difficult to describe the sound really.. no high pitched whine.. more a deep, warm sound (if a sound can be warm).. a lovely hum :worried: It was certainly Ripple so that discounts the 748. Must have been one of the Boscombe Andovers

Hi Dave

Yes deep sound to the 780 due to those big props :)
