Discovering AES

Inspired by Peter's shots of AES equipped airports, I thought I'd give it a try at a foggy HKG. It's a lot of fun but with one or two anomalies.
The shots are nothing like the standard of Peter's but it's a good excuse to show off my retro traffic :roll:


The follow me truck can't find any shortcuts at busy times!

AES doesn't recognise AI aircraft - leading to some embarrassing situations! Which also means that it doesn't know which gates are empty so you have to tell it where you want to park.

You can teach the steps where the doors are - but the catering truck is a problem!

Fuelling is finished

The pushback crew do an excellent job!

Peter will like this, if he happens by. The terminal at Kai Tak was on two levels. The lower level was arrivals and the upper departures. The terminal end of the jetways were moved up and down as required. AES has recreated this and when you request boarding, the jetways move to the upper level
The VC10 jetways are set for disembarking while at the adjacent gate they are set for boarding.

You'll see AES at the top.. hit the detail button and at the bottom of that page, you'll find AES. The program itself is free and works with a handful of airports 'as-is' (though you may find that these are not the airports you use!!). To get functionality on other airports, you have to buy 'credits'. All the necessary detail is available at Aerosoft.com ;-)

Golly...I had not noticed that...I'm normally parked away from the jetways! I have never heard of that clever system!...When I take my Trident there I will fix it beforehand that I get a jetway and then I can watch that work :flying:

BTW...I've been using my Japanese airports with AES today...I had a problem with the Jap4 set of airports not linking to AES. I raised a ticket with aerosoft and they gave me the solution of a direct pointer to an update. I find the Aerosoft after sales service excellent

I find I can juggle things so that the catering van does not foul with the baggage unloader but the "Cleaners" strange vehicle does some rather odd things!

another BTW...The marshallers at the Japanese airports have a Japanese accent and also they bow from the waist when they have you in position and you respond to their "Cut Engines" signal, by closing down

Hi Macs. The Master of AES (as of most everything to do with FS9!) is Peter McLeland. Did you catch his recent post with a splendid selection of shots (and links to more) featuring AES. http://www.cbfsim.org/cbfsim/cbfsBB/vie ... =1&t=14767 He has 46 airports equipped with it!

This was my inspiration to buy it. As Dave says, the program is free and a credit pack of 10 credits costs the equivalent of £12.20. Airports will take between 0 and 5 credits to activate. I am currently only using it with Fly Tampa Kai Tak which was only 2 credits to activate. You only need turn it on if you choose, with a key press.

Ben - yes, you don't miss much ! They are AI HJG 707s and one or two of them are wearing your paints! In creating my 70s/80s retro Kai Tak, I've found most of the essential aircraft on Avsim, but the only AI 707 wasn't of the same quality. Fortunately, once again, Peter came to the rescue and made available a conversion he had done of the HJG 707-320 BOAC Cargo a/c painted by Tony Madge. I found that the other -320 paints fitted it fine and have a selection flying in and out with the rest of my retro traffic. And very nice they look too!

The downside is that they aren't as frame rate friendly as the rest of the AI that I've found. I've set the 707s at 50% visibility and everything else at 5%, so if I'm flying I set the traffic slider to 49% and lose the 707s, but if I'm just watching them fly in and out I put the slider at 100% and have them all! You'll spot a couple more in this busy little shot:

EDIT: Peter posted while I was typing! I thought you'd like the jetway thing, Peter! I'll definitely get round to buying a couple more airports to use AES and I think the Japanese ones sound pretty good. I like the idea of ramp staff bowing to me!

Here's a better shot of it. It's available from Avsim (aia_gcs_dc8-73.zip) for the AI Aardvark DC-8-73. Flaps and reversers, too!
