Airplanes folder names

Post by J0hn »

Hey up, Guys

I've been cleaning up my models and re-archiving stuff to DVD after adjustments - mostly to get them to work in FSX, but I have a devil of a job sometimes finding a plane's folder.

Is there any reason why I can't simply rename all my aircrafts' folders to their proper names, rather than the often cryptic ones they are released with, like D8x2_FSX, for example?

Hi J0hn

Yes......the folder won't be recognise by anthing that is sent to look for something shared in that folder

If there is a cryptic name there is probably a good reason for it

Okay - I thought shared files were held in separate folders such as the ones Dave uses for the Comet, 1-11 et al, but if not then I will just have to put up with it.

Hi John,

You can call the folders whatever you like, the only cation would be if you try to patch it, it will be looking for the original folder name. I've renamed almost all of mine. The only time you might have an issue other than patching is where aliases are used for sounds / panel etc as these use the folder names, but are easily changed.

Hi Ben

good point there about the aliases - hadn't thought of that one. Although I reckon most of those are aliased to the default aircraft folders, which I wouldn't change.

I'll certainly watch out for it.

Thanks.

John

Hi JOhn, another way would be to make a folder naming it i.e BAC1-11 and then plonk the a/c folder in it, the only downside is that if you have 30 a/c then you will have to create that amount of folders.
