Just started a flight from EGPH to the (excellent freeware) CYYZ. Passed Wick at FL300 and it started getting a little turbulent so I levelled off the climb and increased power. Just after GONUT I applied +500 feet of climb. Wind was 40+kts from about 312 degrees. The aircaft then started getting violently rocked as the wind suddenly increased and decreased by 30-40Kts at a time, over about 5 minutes. Speed dipped so I applied maximum thrust and levelled off, before again selecting nose up for the climb, after another 5 minutes buffetting, the aircraft speed dropped to 125 KIAS and the a/c plummeted to FL280, before I nearly spily my cuppa in switching the autopilot off. I regained control and manually climbed to FL300 before re-engaging the autopilot, and after 10 minutes I again started a climb, just as I did so another bout of wind forced the nose down, so I quit the A/P and levelled off, then switched off.
The main question is - is this indicative of FS9's 'violent weather' capability? I've never had an aircraft thrown about so much!

Re: Weather?
Hi Jim
That does sound rather violent although I have experienced windsheer in the VC10 strong enough to disengage AP and have me going 90deg off track. I'm not entirely sure that giving the go levers some 'LARGE' would be the right thing to do as all aircraft have turbulent air limits!
Perhaps the best plan would have been to try and go above, below or around it if possible ;-) That's the beauty of flightsim though isn't it

Or turn the weather off until you've passed through

Re: Weather?
There is a wind smoothing option in FSUIPC IIRC. There is one for visibility too so it doesn't snap to 100feet vis after being CAVOK for hours

Re: Weather?

Cheers Guys. jonesy, I'll have a look at windsmoothing later :flying:
I must admit, it's the highest altitude I've had any issues like that - wonder if there's a working weather radar mod?

Re: Weather?
RealityXP do a WX RADAR. It can be ran in "no frame" mode so you can blend it better with other panels. Here it is in the Andover

Cheers Jonesey!
A very reasonable price as well. Don't you love a weak dollar?
Once I get permission that is.......
