I don't think just converting bmp to dds will allow the textures to be shown in DX10.

I believe the model has to be native FSX. For instance the Beaufighter and Real Air Spitfire will show in DX10 as they are native FSX models but I've tried dds textures on portovers and they have never shown up.

I could be wrong however, it has been known.

No doubt one of our resident designers will know the answer.

EDIT Just read Skippy's post again and I see I have repeated what he said STUPID . What happened to the "Doh" smiley?
Thinking does not necessarily make it so.

Yes...its a MDL8 file for the comet 1....can someone explain this to me please...?

Is there anyway to convert the.mdl8 file to X or to fool it into readiing dds files....or does it mean it has to be totally remodelled....?

Surely there is an easy...ish solution to this...?

:dunno:

You would think there would be an easy way, however if there were I am sure someone would have come up with a utility to do it by now. FSX is not exactly brand new at this point. I bet the whole model has to be redone pretty much from scratch.

If the model was made in gMax it should be possible to run it through the FSX exporter and come up with an FSX model, although there's a bit of work redoing the animations to the new format. Basically the exporter takes the gMax model, converts it to a .x format and then converts the .x file to an MDL. With FSX extra functionality was added to the .x export including more complex texture maps and clever animation, while the MDL phase produces an FSX optimised model which displays more polygons more efficiently than the FS9 format. This is why FS9 models despite being less complex have lower FPS in FSX and FSX models won't work in FS9.
Theoretically you could write a program that converts from FS9 to FSX, but I'd imagine anyone who can write that kind of code has better things to be doing.

I just wanted to mention that there are also several version of the ImageTool.exe fro FSX alone.

The latter(in FSX sp2) does the auto-flipping

Does the FS.9 version have DDS on it?
No Garry...The FS9 version does not know about DDS textures :)
