Hobby sent me a WIP of his RAF Ford and while it looks fine to me.. he's not particularly happy with the Control Tower. He's using EZScenery and Afcad and my question is, does anyone know of a good source of WWII/Post War towers he can use (noting that this is for FS9 only)?? There are a few odd's and sod's out there but none look 'British' enough and I think this is why he's not happy with what he has thus far ;-)
Best thing I can think of is to check out Cees Donker's stuff over at the Outhouse, as he has tackled a good few WW II fields - if he hasn't released the towers separately I'm sure he would be happy to help.
Cees has made several sets of RAF buildings available as scenery macros. Not sure if control towers are in there, but worth a look.
Failing that, Ted Andrews made some RAF control towers for FSX. He may be worth contacting to see if he'll be willing to recompile for FS9 or make the source code available
Thanks for that so far lads ;-) I'd seen Ted's towers and pointed them out to Hobby who immediately pointed out that they were for FSX.. something I'd missed
Would Hobby be able to use Cee's tower macros with EZ Scenery or is this a completely different kettle of fish??
Have you looked at the Tangmere scenery for FS9 at Avsim, that tower is 1944 vintage and similar to the one at Ford, I think. It was made for the museum project but offered as freeware. I have not heard from the designer (who seems have retired) for a couple of years at least though.
Many thanks for all the pointers. I shall be off to avsim pronto to look at the FS9 Tangmere scenery. However my RAF Museum plans of RAF Ford in 1945 indicate that the tower built at Ford was of a 1941 design.
Is this the same RAF Ford I'm in the process of doing the ground textures for?, if so I've already got the type of tower needed I just need to find the time to repaint it for you. ;-)
