Rick's Hawk & VFR GenX Scotland

Post by Filonian »

Just received a newsletter from Horizon Simulations

http://www.horizonsimulation.co.uk/eNew ... 030908.htm

Such A Spectacular Aircraft that PC Pilot Reviewed it at 95%!
For a while we've been considering how we could add more value to your simulation experience with FSX and VFR Generation X and we recently struck upon a number of ideas that we think you'll like.
Since we're often asked which add-ons are compatible with VFR Generation X, we decided that the first such idea we'd put into practice would be to test, evaluate, and recommend those third party add-ons which we believe will add significantly to your enjoyment of FSX - essentially those we would recommend to our friends.
Where possible, we'll also try to negotiate discounts for registered users of VFR Generation X, though unfortunately we can't always guarantee we'll get them!
The first enhancement to be recommended by Horizon was VFR Airfields (though our old, clunky site meant we didn't get a story up about it!). Feedback has been so positive, we thought we'd give you some more...
As regular forum contributor and a fantastic add-on aircraft designer, we decided that Rick Piper's new Red Arrows BAE Hawk T1 (PC Pilot Review: 95%!) would be our 2nd recommendation.

Well deserved plaudits Rick :welldone: :welldone: :welldone:

Plus good news for those who fly round Scotland

VFR Generation X Scotland - Western Isles is Coming Soon!
We're asked daily when Scotland will be available as an enhancement for FSX and, until now, we've always said that "it's coming, but we're not absolutely sure when!". The problem has been that the weather in Scotland has prevented the companies acquiring the photographic data from completing their surveys. We're sure you'll be pleased to hear that coverage is now sufficient for us to start creating products for you and we've been doing this behind the scenes for a little while now.
The spectacular Western Isles will be the first in the series and we expect it to be available within the next 6 weeks (followed swiftly by the Shetlands and the Orkneys and then the rest of the mainland).
The series will include high-resolution photographic scenery, terrain, night-lighting (developed using new techniques), intricate water-masking and a few other special features that we'll let you know more about shortly. The developers tell me that the Western Isles will, without doubt, be better than anything we've created in the past and are excited about its release.
This is just a 'heads up' for now. More detailed information will be posted on our website very shortly.

Hi Graham..

I think it's only fitting that Horizon should do this as in reality, RIck has been a supporter of GenX and it's predecessor in more ways than one in the past. Pity they couldn't have done so when he was freeware but there you go..

Call me a cynic, but I do find it an odd coincidence that both products on this listing, just happen to available for sale via Horizon!
To take nothing away from the Hawk (or Gary's UK stuff, which is equally stunning), I would have thought that this is a rather an odd and heavy handed way of advertising products that are sold via their site, rather than those of the developers. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment and choice though!

I think Rick's Hawk is the best thing for FSX in fact in wet Wales this week ( its always wet..) I saw a hawk fly over nice and low and thought of Rick and wondered if the the gruesome twosome Darling and Brown knew how good it was, if so they would go to virtual war and save a packet in production costs... But then again they are most likely working on a new script for a spot on Hale and Pace.
I am glad a company like Gen X are making good noises about the Hawk as this will help with sales etc and any sort of advert is good.
I did try their scenery for a short while and must admit prior to removing it (a long story...which I won't bore you with..suffice to say ......)
It was a great improvement over FS9's earlier version
Hope you earn enough for some new Mini's Rick

Trev -
I think you've got the tail wagging the dog. :)

The Hawk being only 1 of the 6 products/lines advertised in the email,

Releasing a major FSX product
& having a sale of legacy FS9 & X-Plane products that you're discontinuing,
makes good business sense.

I very much doubt any potential VFR London FSX purchaser
will be doing so specifically because they'd previously purchased the Hawk .

Given that FSX London was originally scheduled for release last year,
I'd look at it rather as a delayed product announcement,
and awareness raising of the upcoming Scotland products,
with a coincidental advertising "Gift Horse" for yourselves.
