HI All
Wondering if anyone has any clue on the Vista 'Admin' set-up?
I've purchased a docker for my two Samsung HDDs from the Compaq (which is superb BTW) - and I now have full access to all my files/photos etc. however, some of my zip files from the old C drive (not the second drive curiously) will not open, nor will documents or PDF files. Vista attempts to get me to 'take ownership' - but even going through that procedure, I cannot open the files after a close/open. Does anyone know more than I do about getting around this?
What is most bizarre is that while I can't open a simple PDF or even move it, yet (for example) I ran my Canon zoombrowser (from the old C JDD) which then crashed - all I did was move some system files onto the new C drive (not the main app) and it runs superbly. Seems a bit bizarre 'security'!!

Re: Vista help
Hi Jim. My old Canon zoom browser was one program that I can't get to work in Vista. I just open the camera as another drive and drag the photos across.
As to the zip files, there are a few things to try. First is to turn off UAC (User Account Control) and see if that works. Or go to the Network and Sharing Center and see if all the sharing options are turned on (except perhaps the password protection). Or maybe just right clicking on the zip file, choose 'share', then 'permission level' anc click remove which removes all requirement for permission to access that file. Or right clicking on the file and choosing properties and ensuring that 'read only' is unchecked.
That lot should keep you busy for a while

Re: Vista help
Cheers Ian. I'm having trouble installing Rick's Hunter for some reason - but once I sort out the file options......
Zoombrowser is actually running of the drive with XP installed (on the docker) - except that some of the common and swap files are on the 'main' C drive.
I've yet to even contemplate putting back some of the programs (Canon utilities, photo editing, Word, Excel etc etc) yet!
