Expert help on fuel usage requested...
I've got some setting wrong in my .air or Aircraft.cfg file and it is preventing me from feeding fuel from BOTH Left and Right main tanks at the same time. My aircraft is only feeding from the right tank and I'm waiting to see what happens when that tank becomes empty.
I have even fitted the basic Cessna Fuel Cock but the needle is firmly on R and will not go to any other position...It just clicks there for a moment and immediately flicks back to R :brick:
I have compared the files of the aircraft with those of the Cessna 172 in which the fuel tank selector works perfectly and I can find no significant difference :@
I'm sure that I can't be the only one who has suffered this problem and hope that one of the experts here can remember the solution.
Thanks for your thoughts on the matter :flying:

It is even worse than I thought...The left tank never feeds and then when the right tank runs out, the engines stops and after a spiral dive, the aircraft crashed in a mountain lake

Ah! It's back to Ex 17 forced landing practice for you !
As a matter of interest, when you were in initial training, were you taught the RAF " circular " tactic for forced landings, or were you taught the conventional circuit tactic?

Peter..
Could it be the number of tank selectors you have?? I know that some models will do this if there are multiple tanks and switches and only one switch is shown in the aircraft.cfg.

Well Done Dave...You hit the nail on the head!...I upped it from 1 to 2 and I can now select L, R or OFF but not BOTH...I tried upping it to 3 but still could not have BOTH...Anyway, it is now workable...Thank you very much Dave
I spent the whole day on that problem and got absolutely nowhere

Hmmm...Chris, you will have to explain both and then I'll try to remember which I was taught

Hi Peter
Glad that 'sort of' worked ;-) Does the aircraft in question have a fuel pump shown in the aircraft.cfg?? If it has the line.. electric_pump=1 .. it should take off both I think

Yes it does have that statement Dave and with the original before I changed the engine and added a lot to the panel, it ran on BOTH without a selector. I just finished a long flight in it and it was just fine on alternating L and R. I'll try the odd things tomorrow to try to get back BOTH, but it is now working very nicely...Thanks again :flying:

Peter/DaveB
Thank you very much for this enlightning little Thread
It graphically provides why CBFS is such a top hole Forum
I have been struggling with Ken Mitchells L1011 strip panel in the Vistaliner L1011 recently becasue it wouldn't let you use the AUX tanks
and if you tried to crossfeed it killed the motors stone dead.....Now through reading Peters Petrol Predicament .....(eat your heart out
Garry) I have been able to modify the cfg files in KMs panel and ALL the tanks now work and show on the FE's panels
Thank you gents
(Oh by the way Peter - very Natty look at Salibury - you were posing for Tatler maybe???
)
I'll get my coat
